Every WNBL player set to ignite the market when Free Agency opens on Monday, June 2 at 12pm (AEST)

  • Multiple WNBL superstars will be available when free agency opens on June 2, 2025
  • Adelaide Lightning's confirmation as the eighth WNBL club adds to promises of the most thrilling free agency periods in league history
  • Several high-profile players have already committed to clubs, with Jade Melbourne staying at Canberra and Ally Wilson remaining with Perth

More than 100 of Australia's best women's basketballers, including Isabelle Bourne, Miela Sowah and Bec Cole, and eight WNBL clubs are getting ready for one of the most exciting free agency periods starting on Monday, June 2, 2025 at 12pm.

WNBL clubs are permitted to sign players once the free agency period starts in preparation for the 2025-26 season.

There are more than 100 free agents listed for the 2025–26 WNBL season. Here's the breakdown by classification:

  • Non-Restricted Free Agents: 65
  • Restricted Free Agents: 13
  • Development Player Free Agents: 18
  • Amateur Player Free Agents: 3

The chess pieces have already started moving across the board with several clubs securing key signatures ahead of the official free agency window.

Canberra Capitals have locked in Australian Opals and Washington Mystics WNBA guard Jade Melbourne for another campaign, while Perth Lynx ensured continuity by re-signing their Most Valuable Player Ally Wilson.

Elsewhere, the defending champion Townsville Fire have retained the services of reliable forward Alicia Froling, and Sydney Flames fans will be pleased to see dynamic guard Shaneice Swain returning for another season.

Defending champion Bendigo Spirit will no doubt chase a big signing after WNBL MVP Sami Whitcomb decided to take up an offer from a European club on the day the WNBL announced its rebrand. Championship teammates Veronica Burton, Mariana Tolo and Kelsey Griffin are all free agents.

The 2025-26 season marks a significant milestone for the WNBL with Adelaide Lightning's confirmation as the eighth club in the competition. Their inclusion adds another dimension to an already fascinating free agency period, with an expanded market of opportunities for players looking to secure their futures.

Under WNBL roster regulations, clubs can construct their squads with specific parameters in place. Each team is permitted a maximum of two restricted players, one non-restricted marquee player, one league marquee player, and one amateur player. Teams must maintain ten contracted players on their roster, with development players not counting toward this total.

The combination of available star power and the addition of a new team creates a perfect storm for what could be the most dynamic player movement period in recent WNBL memory. Club executives and coaches are undoubtedly working overtime to formulate strategies that will help them land their top targets when the clock strikes noon on Monday.
