Under-16 Pre-Season Basketball Training Program
Duration: 6 Weeks
Sessions per week: 2-3
Session length: 90 minutes
Program Goals

Week 1: Core Fundamentals & Conditioning
Focus: Refining fundamentals, footwork, and endurance
Warm-up (15 min)
- Dynamic mobility & agility drills – Sprint stops, lateral slides, acceleration bursts
 - Full-court dribble attack drill – Players work on changing pace and direction under control
 - Passing accuracy & decision-making drill – Players pass to moving targets while scanning the court
 
Skill Development (45 min)
- Ball-handling: Combo dribbles, hesitation, retreat dribbles – Players attack defenders with controlled dribbling.
 - Passing: No-look, wrap-around, and one-hand passing – Players refine fast-paced passing mechanics.
 - Footwork & spacing: Jab steps, rip-throughs, step-backs – Players focus on explosive movement and balance.
 - Shooting: Mid-range, deep-range, and shooting off movement – Players work on in-game shot-making under pressure.
 
Scrimmage & Games (25 min)
- 3v3 controlled spacing drill – Players work on positioning and ball movement.
 - 4v4 full-court transition drill – Players simulate fast-break scenarios.
 
Cool-down (5 min)
- Stretching & team discussion
 
Week 2: Defensive Fundamentals & Handling Pressure
Focus: On-ball defense, team rotations, and breaking defensive pressure
Warm-up (15 min)
- Closeout & footwork drill – Players react to offensive movement and contest shots.
 - 1-on-1 defensive containment drill – Ball-handlers try to break free while defenders stay in front.
 
Skill Development (45 min)
- Defensive footwork & angles: Cutting off drives, lateral recovery – Players refine defensive positioning.
 - Defensive rotations: Help-side, switching, and pick-and-roll coverage – Players work on team communication.
 - Rebounding & outlet passing: Boxing out and pushing transition – Players learn to secure rebounds and initiate the fast break.
 - Breaking full-court pressure: Players handle traps and aggressive defense with composure.
 
Scrimmage & Games (25 min)
- 4v4 full-court pressure drill – Teams work on pressing and breaking the press.
 - Half-court 5v5 defensive execution – Emphasis on rotations and closing out shooters.

Week 3: Finishing at the Rim, Shooting, and Transition Play
Focus: Scoring versatility, fast breaks, and defensive transition
Warm-up (15 min)
- 2v1 fast-break drill – Players sprint and make quick decisions on finishing or passing.
 - Shooting under pressure drill – Players shoot with defenders closing out aggressively.
 
Skill Development (45 min)
- Advanced finishing: Reverse layups, floaters, euro step – Players refine finishing through contact.
 - Shooting: Catch-and-shoot, step-backs, shooting off screens – Emphasizes shot creation and consistency.
 - Fast-break decision-making: Players execute quick reads and fast passes in transition.
 - Defensive transition: Sprinting back and stopping the ball – Reinforces defensive communication and hustle.

- 5v5 controlled transition scrimmage – Players focus on efficient fast breaks.

Week 4: Half-Court Execution, Pick & Roll, and Offensive Reads
Focus: Implementing structured offense, spacing, and pick-and-roll execution

Skill Development (45 min)
- Spacing & ball movement: Motion offense basics – Players learn to space the floor effectively.

 - Post play & weak-side action: Guards work on entry passes, post players work on positioning – Improves offensive execution inside and outside.

Week 5: Game Situations, Late-Game Execution, and Mental Toughness
Focus: Handling pressure, executing in crunch time, and staying composed

- 1v1 full-court ball pressure drill – Players must maintain composure against tough defense.
 - Clock management drill – Players practice executing in late-game scenarios.
 
Skill Development (45 min)
- Handling defensive pressure: Breaking traps, double-teams – Players practice staying composed under heavy pressure.
 - Late-game execution: Managing time and score, running specific plays – Players simulate end-of-game scenarios.
 - Drawing fouls & finishing through contact: Attack the rim aggressively – Players practice drawing fouls and finishing under contact.
 - Defensive stops under pressure: Players must lock in defensively in close-game situations.
