Discussions are underway to bring Team USA to Australia to play 2027 World Cup warm-up games.

Just days after a buzzer-beating win over New Zealand put Australia equal top of Group A qualifications standings within Asia, discussions are underway to bring Team USA to Australia to play warm-up games against the Boomers and potentially other countries in the lead up to the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar, reports Matt Logue from Code Sports.

Code Sports exclusively revealed talks are progressing to lure the Americans Down Under prior to the World Cup from August 27 to September 12.

Team USA last played in Australia in the lead up to the 2019 World Cup in China – a memorable visit for Boomers fans when the Aussies recorded a historic first win over the Americans at a sold out Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

Veteran guard Patty Mills starred for the Aussies in the thrilling 98-94 win, dropping 30 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter.

It’s understood officials are also in discussions with other leading basketball nations to play World Cup warm-up games in Australia prior to the 2027 event.
