🇦🇺 Stanford 87, SMU 57 (Final)
Stanford Cardinal: 18–12 (12th in ACC)
Stanford broke the game open in the first 10 minutes and never released control, outscoring SMU 31–6 in the opening quarter to set the platform for a 30-point win. The Cardinal shot 54% from the field, generated 38 rebounds and recorded 18 assists, while holding SMU to 38% shooting and forcing 19 turnovers.
At the centre of the early separation was Australian freshman forward Lara Somfai. Somfai established paint position in Stanford’s first two possessions and finished through contact, immediately challenging SMU’s interior defence. Her activity on the offensive glass extended possessions, and her ability to face up from the elbow forced single coverage. Somfai operated primarily as a face-up four, attacking closeouts and slipping into space off high-low action. Her two assists reflected quick reads out of short rolls and post doubles. Importantly, she remained disciplined defensively, committing zero fouls and staying vertical on contests.
