Gangurrus' perfect start to 3x3 tournament

Australia has sent four teams to the 3x3 basketball and 3x3 wheelchair basketball tournament at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games: men's, women's, wheelchair men's and wheelchair women's. Every game is at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, running from Friday 24 to Wednesday 29 July.

Men's 3x3 (Gangurrus) – Pool A

Squad: Jonah Antonio (No.8), Jarred Bairstow (No.21), Sam McDaniel (No.26), Jesse Wagstaff (No.41).

• Australia 21–15 New Zealand – Fri 24 Jul, 7pm AEST (10:00 BST). Australia opened with a balanced win against the trans-Tasman rival, reaching the 21-point target to end the game early. Sam McDaniel, 30, led the way with eight points and six rebounds, and Jonah Antonio, 29, matched him with eight of his own. New Zealand's Joshua Book top-scored with six. Australia scorers: McDaniel 8, Antonio 8, Wagstaff 4, Bairstow 1.
• Australia 21–15 Nigeria – Sat 25 Jul, 2:25am AEST (Fri 24, 17:25 BST). Antonio carried the scoring this time, pouring in 12 points on 6-from-10 from behind the arc as Australia moved to 2–0. Nigeria's Ikechukwu Sean Nwamu led his side with nine. Australia scorers: Antonio 12, McDaniel 4, Wagstaff 4, Bairstow 1.

Squad: Amy Atwell (No.25), Emma Clarke (No.77), Lara McSpadden (No.14), Marena Whittle (No.21).

• Australia 21–5 Kenya – Fri 24 Jul, 7:25pm AEST (10:25 BST). An emphatic opener. Australia held Kenya to five points and reached the cap, led by Emma Clarke, 26, who scored nine on a perfect 5-from-5 inside the arc and 2-from-2 from range. Amy Atwell, 28, added six points and six rebounds. Australia scorers: Clarke 9, Atwell 6, Whittle 4, McSpadden 2.
• Australia 21–13 Jamaica – Fri 24 Jul, 11:30pm AEST (14:30 BST). A second win to close day one at 2–0. Atwell top-scored with eight, Clarke added six and Lara McSpadden, 27, chipped in five on 5-from-5 inside the arc. Jamaica's Tiffany Reynolds led all scorers with eight. Australia scorers: Atwell 8, Clarke 6, McSpadden 5, Whittle 2.

• England 16–13 Australia – Sat 25 Jul, 1:35am AEST (Fri 24, 16:35 BST). A tight opener that went the full 10 minutes, with England three points clear at the buzzer. Luke Pople, 35, and Tom O'Neill-Thorne, 29, led Australia with four points each, Pople also handing out four assists. England's Peter Cusack top-scored with seven. Australia scorers: O'Neill-Thorne 4, Pople 4, Klein 3, Leard 2.

• England 16–6 Australia – Fri 24 Jul, 9:05pm AEST (12:05 BST). England controlled the game to the buzzer, holding Australia to six points.

What's next

The pool rounds run across the weekend into Monday, July 27. The play-in and semi-final rounds are on Tuesday, July 28 and all four medal deciders – the golds and bronzes across the men's, women's, wheelchair men's and wheelchair women's events – are on Wednesday July 29.

How the tournament works

The men's and women's 3x3 fields have both expanded from eight teams to 12 for these Games. All four Australian teams have been drawn in Pool A. 3x3 is played to FIBA rules: one basket is worth one point, a shot from behind the arc is worth two, and the first team to 21 points wins – or the team leading after 10 minutes if neither side reaches 21.
