'Lord of the Rings': Five rings, five Kobes drop this month
Forty basketball shoes drop in Australia this August, and three of the five Kobes land on day one.
- Three of August's five Kobe releases land on the opening day of the month
- The LeBron 23 'Hardwood Classics' drops Friday August 7 at 9am AEST for A$280
- The Kobe 8 Protro 'Mambacurial' has been pushed from August 8 to September 19
Kobe Bryant has five shoes hitting shelves in August 2026 and three of them landed on the first day of the month.
The pick is the Kobe Air Force 1 Low Protro "Lord of the Rings", a nod to his five championships, and it is the only shoe on the entire August board with a confirmed Australian price rather than an estimate. It is A$240 on Nike AU, A$170 in older kids' sizing.
The other two August 1 Kobes are the Air Force 1 Low "Electric Green" and the Kobe 3 Low Protro "Atomic Pink", which was pushed back out of July. The "Dodgers" follows on August 15 and the Kobe 10 Elite Low Protro "Halo" closes the run on August 23.
LeBron James is next. The LeBron XXIII "Hardwood Classics" drops on Friday August 7 at 9:00am AEST in Game Royal and Safety Orange, priced at A$280. That time is worth having, because Nike Australia and Nike US do not release at the same moment and most calendars only carry the American date.
August 1 is the busiest day of the year so far. Beyond the three Kobes it brings the Giannis Freak 8 "Buckitos", the Air Jordan 13 Retro "Flint" after two previous delays, adidas' Harden Vol. 10 "Northern Lights" and Cade Cunningham's ST Charge "Rugged".
Ja Morant's Ja 4 "Nightmare" arrives August 13, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's Converse SHAI 001 Lace Up on August 14 in Lime and Berry, and Kevin Durant's KD 19 "Butter Candy" on August 19.
One shoe has left the month. The Kobe 8 Protro "Mambacurial", the 2013 boot-inspired classic, was scheduled for August 8 and has been pushed to September 19.

What it costs in Australia
Two shoes on the August board carry a confirmed Australian price. Everything else is priced by model line from Nike AU's own product pages, because Nike Australia has not published Australian prices for most of these colourways and we are not converting a US figure and calling it an Australian one.
- Nike Kobe Air Force 1 Low Protro "Lord of the Rings" (IQ3921-100): A$240 confirmed. Older kids' sizing (IW2221-100) is A$170.
- Nike LeBron XXIII "Hardwood Classics" (IM5125-400): A$280 confirmed.
- Nike LeBron XXIII, wider line: A$280. The "Dreams and Nightmares" execution is A$320.
- Nike Kobe 5 Protro: A$270 to A$280.
- Nike Kobe 3 Protro: A$280 for adults, A$170 for the Kobe 3 Low Protro in older kids' sizing. They are not the same purchase.
- Nike KD 19: A$230.
- Nike Kobe Air Force 1 Low: A$190.
- Nike Ja 4: no Australian price published. The Ja 3 is A$190.
What to buy
If you actually play, buy the Ja 4 on August 13. The Ja line has been the most honest performance shoe in Nike Basketball for three iterations: light, low, grippy and priced for people who wear shoes out rather than photograph them.
If you are buying to keep, the "Lord of the Rings" is the one. It is the only August release where an Australian buyer can see the actual Australian number today, and at A$240 it is A$40 less than a LeBron.

Two dates we are not printing yet
The Air Foamposite Pro "Green Camo" is genuinely disputed. Equally current pages have it on August 14 and August 21, and Nike's own feed does not carry it, so there is nothing to break the tie. The Nike Shox BB4 OG is worse: Sneaker Bar Detroit's calendar says August 28 while its own article on the same shoe says Fall 2026.
We will update both when they settle rather than pick one and hope.
One to watch
An Air Jordan 12 "Bucks" appears to have moved out of September and into August. Sneaker Files has it on August 12, Sneaker Bar Detroit still has it in September, and GOAT carries the older September 19 date. A Giannis-adjacent Jordan 12 is worth knowing about, but the date is not settled and we are not printing one.
