Everything you need to know about the FIBA Asia Cup as the Boomers try for a three-peat.

Much of the attention will be drawn on Australia when the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 finally raises its curtains this week at the King Abdullah Sports City in this sprawling Saudi Arabian city.

That of course is a given being the defending two-time champions, with observers watching if the Boomers would be able to complete a 'three-peat' - a feat that hasn't been done in this tourney for over 20 years now.

The last time that a team accomplished as much was in 2003 in Harbin, when China struck gold for the third successive time, eventually making it four straight by ruling the 2005 showpiece held in Doha, Qatar.

Since joining in 2017, Australia has won all of their 12 matches so far in the Asia Cup, which could be one of the longest winning streaks in this prestigious competition.

How The Asia Cup Works

Each team will play the other teams in their group in a single round-robin format. Every group winner will gain direct access to the Quarter-Finals, while the second-place and third-place teams of each group will play in the Qualification to the Quarter-Finals, which take place on August 11-12.

A knockout-system will be used after the Group Phase, with the losing teams playing in a classification game.

The Quarter-Finals will be played on August 13-14, with the Semi-Finals played on August 16. The FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Final and 3rd Place Game will be played on August 17.
