How Torrey Craig can boost Kings' title dreams

Former Sydney King Jason Cadee has revealed how the club's new prized recruit in former NBA wing Torrey Craig could boost their hopes of adding another NBL championship.

Craig, who played for the Boston Celtics in the NBA last season and also started his professional career in the NBL with the Cairns Taipans and Brisbane Bullets, signed with the Kings as an injury replacement for defensive stopper Bul Kuol.

The move was a sign of the belief the Kings' leadership has in the team's championship hopes this season with Brian Goorjian's side one of the title favourites, especially after their form over the past month, which included two wins over the league-leading Adelaide 36ers.

But with FIBA Asia Cup MVP Jaylin Galloway finding his form since the Kuol injury in that starting small forward spot, Cadee believed Craig could move to another position to help the Kings become a championship team.

"Where it does get interesting is he's also probably a guy that's coming in expecting to play, so how they figure that out with their line-ups," Cadee said on Cut to the Jase.

"He's actually a genuine big, a wing, so I could see him playing bits in the four where they put (Xavier Cooks) in the five and doing things like that.

"For Sydney to go and do that when there was talk they weren't going to do anything and earlier on in the year they didn't go and get a big when everyone thought they'd get a big.

"They've sat and waited and thought 'we are right there, we think and believe we will win this thing but we do need that piece'."

Craig, 35, played two seasons with the Taipans before moving to Queensland rivals the Bullets for a season, where he earned an NBA call-up. He then played critical roles on several teams, including the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns.

Cadee said the 6'5" forward, who was known for his defence during his previous NBL stints, was a massive addition for the Kings and the league.

"It's a massive addition, the reason it's massive is Torrey knows Australia, he knows the NBL, and he's a great guy," Cadee said.

"He's going to fit in seamlessly.

"Kudos to Sydney, it's a big signing and I think he'll help them."

Craig will suit up for the Kings against the Tasmania JackJumpers on Thursday at Qudos Bank Arena from 7.30pm (AEDT).
