Josh Giddey records another career-high after dishing out 19 assists in Chicago's loss to the Cavs

It's a season of personal milestones for Chicago Bulls point guard Josh Giddey after he dished out a career-high in assists in a tight loss to Eastern Conference contenders the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Giddey recorded 19 assists in the Bulls 115-110 defeat at the hands of the Cavaliers at the United Center, beating his previous record of 17, helping Chicago almost pull off a miracle comeback after trailing by as much as 28 points at home.

He also had nine points, going 4-from-11 from the field and 1-from-5 from the three-point line, and six rebounds.

Making it even more impressive, the 23-year-old had a career-high 12 dimes in the first half and his 19 for the game is the most by a Bulls player since Ennis Whatley in February, 1985.

The total was also the highest by an Aussie in NBA history.

The performance was a dominant return to form for Giddey, who had one of his worst games of the season the previous day, having just nine points as well as no rebounds and only three assists in a loss to the Toronto Raptors at home.

Giddey's career-high in assists comes after a dream past month on the court, which included passing Michael Jordan and Grant Hill on the NBA's all-time triple-double list and also passing Scottie Pippen to move into second on the list of most triple-doubles by a Bull.

Looking back on the four-year, USD $100m extension he signed in the offseason, it appears as though the Chicago front office secured a bargain with the cornerstone of their franchise locked in long-term on a favourable deal for the franchise.
