Aussie three-and-defence specialist Josh Green and the Charlotte Hornets are back on the winner's list after a reality check from the Boston Celtics earlier in the week as they look to climb into a better position for the Play-In Tournament.

The Hornets have had one of the best net ratings in the league over the past 40 games but the Celtics were sent back down to earth on Monday in a 114-99 loss to the Eastern Conference title favourites.

However, Green and the Hornets returned to form against the hapless Brooklyn Nets today, demolishing the tanking franchise 117-86 at the Barclays Center.

While Green only had three points, shooting 1-from-2 from the three-point line, Charlotte were clinical to earn their 40th win of the season.

Charles Lee's team sit 10th in the conference but are level with the Miami Heat and only 1.5 wins behind the Philadelphia 76ers in seventh place.

The Hornets would love to climb up to ninth, which would earn them a home game in the do-or-die play-in game, or even more, move up to the 7-8 bracket which would earn them a second chance in the tournament.

It would be a remarkable turnaround for the Hornets, who have been irrelevant as a franchise for more than a decade, and who were also sitting at the bottom of the ladder early in the season.

Josh Green has three points, shooting 50% from beyond the arc, along with one steal in his 14 minutes off the bench.

Brandon Miller led the way for the Hornets with 25 points in the 31-point win.

Tyrese Proctor showcased his skills on the bright lights of Crypto.com Arena after scoring 10 points in just 12 minutes late in a 126-113 loss for the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Aussie rookie point guard went 3-from-5 from the field, 2-from-3 from the three-point line and 2-from-2 from the free-throw line to impress as he continues to ramp up after returning to the court from a quadriceps injury, which kept him sidelined for a month.

Proctor was a team-high +13 in his minutes.

The Cavaliers remain in fourth spot in the Eastern Conference.
