WNBA draftee Serena Sundell has signed with the Adelaide Lightning for the 2025-26 WNBL season and will form a formidable partnership with Dallas Loughridge in the historic club's backcourt.
The 21-year-old 185cm guard was selected with the 26th pick in the 2025 WNBA draft by the Seattle Storm after four stand-out seasons for the Kansas State Wildcats in the WBCA Conference.
“I’m so excited to come to Australia and contribute to the excitement and energy of the WNBL," Sundell said.
"I’ve got no doubt that under the guidance of head coach Kerryn Mitchell I’ll learn a lot and become a stronger guard.
“The Adelaide Lightning has such a strong legacy and championship-winning identity that I’m excited to learn from and contribute to.”
Sundell was waived by the Storm on May 12, 2025.

In her senior season, Sundell was a cornerstone of Kansas State’s success, with her elite playmaking, leadership, and scoring consistency.
She played in 34 games, delivering a balanced combination of scoring, distribution, and defense, with several standout performances in both conference and postseason play.
Sundell was the first Wildcat with 500+ points and 250+ assists while shooting at least 50% FG in a single season.
Sundell's Kansas State Wildcats ended Australian WNBA draftee Georgia Amoore's Kentucky Wildcats' 2025 national championship run 80-79 in overtime of the Sweet 16 on March 24, 2025. She had 19 points on 8-from-15 from the field in 45 minutes. She also had 14 assists and 3-from-4 from deep.
Adelaide Lightning head coach Kerryn Mitchell said: “We can’t wait to have Serena join the Adelaide Lightning for the upcoming WNBL season.
"She’s coming off an excellent college career and is looking to come down to Australia to really lock-in, hone her skills and continue to grow and develop her game. We’re thrilled that we get to play a big part in that.”
"Serena’s game is not dissimilar to Kristy Wallace, she is strong, aggressive and has a nice midrange game.
"She’ll be a great backcourt partner for Dallas, and I’m looking forward to watching them create havoc for opposition teams."
