Could Josh Giddey be set to partner the great Steph Curry next season?

  • Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer is reporting the Golden State Warriors have reached out to Josh Giddey's camp
  • Giddey is a restricted free agent and is expected by most to reunite with the Chicago Bulls
  • He averaged 14.8 points along with 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists for the Bulls last season

A Steph Curry and Josh Giddey backcourt? That's something most Australian basketball fans, especially, would love to see.

It could be a possibility with Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer reporting the Golden State Warriors are among teams who have contacted Giddey's representatives with interest in acquiring his services for next season.

The 22-year-old is a restricted free agent and while most expect the Australian and the Chicago Bulls to come to terms on a new deal, the two parties have been far apart in negotiations with Giddey's camp reportedly wanting around the $30 million per year mark.

With little to no salary cap available around the league, the market has been tough for several restricted free agents, including names such as Brooklyn's Cam Thomas and Philadelphia's Quentin Grimes - as former NBA general manager Ryan McDonough told basketball.com.au.

But on a livestream with the Bleacher Report, Fischer reported a possible sign-and-trade with Golden State restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga could be a possibility.

“I can report, I can’t name more teams than I would like to, but I can report that there have been multiple teams who have reached out to Josh Giddey’s representatives about having interest in Josh Giddey," Fisher said on the stream.

"Golden State is one of them. Golden State would be interested, depending on how the machinations would go, in some type of Josh Giddey-Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade, to my understanding.”

A partnership with Curry and the Warriors would be an ideal fit for Giddey's high IQ and pass-first skillset with so many weapons around him, including the greatest shooter of all-time.

The Boomers star had a breakout season with Chicago after being traded from OKC for Alex Caruso, averaging 14.8 points along with 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game, with his game going to another level following the Zach LaVine trade to the Sacramento Kings.

In his interview with basketball.com.au at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, McDonough said he believed the Bulls and Giddey would come to an agreement and possibly meet in the middle at around the $20 million mark.

Giddey has been back in Australia during the offseason, doing camps around the country and was also part of the Boomers camp on the Gold Coast, along with fellow NBA talents in Dyson Daniels and Johnny Furphy.

Basketball.com.au has reached out to Giddey's camp to try and confirm the reports.
