When it comes to rebuilding basketball franchises, Will Weaver has seen it all, writes Matt Logue from CODE Sports.

From playing a role in the Philadelphia 76ers’ infamous “Trust the Process” NBA mantra to helping fellow battlers Charlotte and Brooklyn climb up the standings, Weaver fully understands what rock bottom looks like.

The American-born coach also sees a beauty in the battle to become better.

It’s why he has happily accepted multiple coaching jobs with struggling franchises in desperate need for direction.

Now Weaver faces the NBL’s ultimate challenge, taking the success-starved Brisbane Bullets from the cellar to a championship as the club’s new head coach and President of Basketball Operations.

The Bullets last won a title 19 years ago while they haven’t qualified for the post-season in seven years.

Weaver knows it won’t be easy to transform Brisbane’s fortunes but he has never been one to back away from a challenge.

“Because for whatever reason my career has centred on builds,” Weaver told CODE Sports.

“The Sixers, the Nets, Houston and college life, it has always felt like I was being trained to know how you take something from the studs up to somewhere you dream about living. “We’re well and truly in that process at Brisbane right now.

“The process is going to be measured in years and not months or wins or any other short term goal but that is really what appeals to me professionally is to have this on my basketball gravestone one day if we do it right.”

Weaver arrives in Brisbane with a decorated resume spanning two decades across the NBA, NBL, European leagues and international tournaments.
