The Cairns Taipans are looking like the team Adam Forde has always wanted them to be

Finally, the Cairns Taipans look like the team Adam Forde has always wanted them to be.

Cairns sit fourth on the NBL27 ladder after winning five of their past six games following a convincing 107-85 win over Queensland rivals, the Brisbane Bullets, at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on October 29.

Jack McVeigh is doing Jack McVeigh things, import point guard Jaylon Brown continues to find his feet, former Next Star Malique Lewis is knocking down corner threes like consistent shooting has never been an issue during his career and current Next Star Luke Paul is showing the glimpses of being a future NBA lottery pick.

Also off-season recruit Jonah Bolden, in his own words, is only "scratching the surface".

But as we celebrate Halloween around the world, and following the Taipans' inconsistency in recent seasons, is this line of form a trick or a treat for Cairns fans?

Their latest run of form shows Taipans fanatics it's definitely a treat because of who the wins have come against.

With victories against Melbourne United and two against an improved Bullets, including sending their Sunshine Stoush foes to their first nightmare loss under new coach Will Weaver, Forde's side has established themselves as serious playoff contenders this season.

Bolden's resurgence is emblematic of the resurgence of the team. After struggling to make an impact at his last two stops at the Illawarra Hawks and New Zealand Breakers, the former Philadelphia 76er has become a key ingredient for Forde's up-tempo style of play with his versatility defensively as well as his athleticism and ability to stretch the floor from the three-point line.

Bolden had seven points, 13 rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks against the Bullets, as he forms a dynamic front-court rotation with Keanu Pinder, and Forde's excited about his growth.

"He's just been amazing," Forde said in his post-game press conference after the win over the Bullets.

"He did an interview with the local news in Cairns and he's just like 'well, I feel like I've only scratched the surface'.

"That really excites me, where he's focus is at and what he wants to bring.

"I'm just going to keep trying to put him in the spots where I think he can capitalise."

In the theme of Halloween, Forde and the Taipans have had to deal with a horrific run of injuries in recent seasons, hindering their ability to try and fulfil their potential.

But things are looking up in NBL27 with Cairns not only finding form, but welcoming back star recruit Jaylin Galloway back from injury and also starting to find a role for Paul, who is off to Duke University next year.

The Taipans roster is a true Forde-style of roster and nothing showed that more than how they turned the tide against the Bullets on Thursday.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, Cairns finished the period with a steal before Paul hit McVeigh for a transition three-pointer. A play which displays the exact style the Taipans want to play and why they've proved such a tough team to take on this season, especially when they're healthy.

And Forde was pleased with how they bounced back from a slow start.

"We just stayed committed to it. I burned a tech, and you know, I’m glad I did. It’s good that the boys were able to realign their focus and not be too cute with it," he said.

Brown said there was plenty of growth in the Taipans.

"I think we're improving each and every day. We're focusing on the little things that we can get done and, it's basically going on the court. I love the outcomes that we're having, and we're going to keep improving," he said.

It doesn’t get any easier for Cairns as they host Melbourne United tonight their third game in seven days, something Forde was well aware of.

“Melbourne are very good and they found a lot of form and they're going to be ready," he said.

Let’s see if the nightmare for Cairns' opponents can continue.
