Australian Indiana Pacers wing Johnny Furphy has revealed one of the most important lessons he has learned from his veteran teammates during their 2025 NBA title pursuit.
"Not getting too high or too low, having a really short-term memory," Furphy told NBL.com.au's Peter Hooley at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
"That's something I picked up from a lot of my teammates.
"No matter how they play, they're just always kind of looking forward.
"That was something that really stood out to me. I'm going to try to try and use that as much as I can from here."
The Melbourne-born 20-year-old delivered the highlight of Summer League with his thunderous poster dunk on Noa Essengue lit up social media.
"I'm not gonna lie — it was a lot," Furphy admitted.
"I didn't, I didn't actually know it was that bad till I saw it after the game and then, yeah, my phone was blowing up.
"So yeah, it was pretty funny."
As more Australians make their way to the NBA through the NBL, Furphy said league-wide interest was growing every year.
"During pre-draft, being able to talk with coaches and front office people about the NBL, Australian basketball in general," Furphy said.
"It's like everyone knows about it and everyone's like 'can I just have conversations about different players and stuff which is pretty cool.
"I'm just happy to be a part of it."
Once Summer League is over, Furphy said he'll spend some time back in Melbourne ahead of the Indiana Pacers training camp in late September.
He said he looked forward to seeing his dogs ... and presumably friends and family.
