Ryan led the whole tournament in efficiency, but all 12 Gems left a mark on an unbeaten title run.

Australian Gems captain Madi Ryan, 17, and guard Isabel Smith, 17, were named in the All-Star Five as Australia went 5-0 to win a third straight FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup in Seremban, Malaysia.

Ryan banked in the winner with nine-tenths of a second left to beat Japan 83-82 in the final on October 10, 2026.

Tournament MVP Miya Takeuchi had put Japan in front with a three at 3.7 seconds.

The Gems beat the Philippines, New Zealand and Korea in the group stage and China in the semi-final, winning their five games by a combined 176 points.

Australia is only the third team to win the title three times in a row, after Korea and China.

"It was really important for me that we try to win this game because it will be the last Asia Cup for some of these girls," head coach Kristi Harrower said.

"So, I wanted to make sure that they won."

The title was built on far more than one shot. From Ryan's tournament-best efficiency and Smith's scoring to Jemyma Manyok's rim protection, Olivia Olechnowicz's minutes and Sophie Richardson's shooting from deep, every Gem made a contribution.

Here's the Australian team By the Numbers, a statistical snapshot of every player's tournament. It highlights the performances, milestones and standout numbers that carried the Gems to gold and to the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2027 in Chengdu, China.

Stats for all 12 Gems, from a 5-0 run to the title. Switch between per-game averages and tournament totals above the table. Amber rows played fewer than five games and are averaged over their own, and the shooting percentages are FIBA’s own, so a made-attempted pair will not always divide to the figure beside it.
Where these numbers come from
Tournament averages for all 12 Australians at the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup 2026, Karisma Arena, Seremban, 4–10 October 2026. Australia won it 5-0, beating Japan 83–82 in the final, a third straight title. Rows are in jersey order. Every column sorts, tap a heading once for ascending, again for descending, a third time to return to jersey order. Leading the side: Madison Ryan (17.0 points), Madison Ryan and Jemyma Manyok (9.4 rebounds each), Cheyenne Bobongie, Isabel Smith and Olivia Olechnowicz (2.8 assists each), and Madison Ryan (25.2) on efficiency. The three amber rows played fewer than the team’s five games and are averaged over their own games, not the team’s: Jade Sherrington (4), Aspen Crase (4), Eliza Shanahan (4). Shooting percentages are FIBA’s own, derived from tournament totals rather than from the rounded per-game figures beside them, so a made-attempted pair will not always divide to the percentage shown, and recomputing it would introduce an error rather than remove one. Minutes are converted from the seconds FIBA publishes. Efficiency is FIBA’s formula: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks, less missed shots, missed free throws and turnovers.
