Bec Cole outlines what Perth and Townsville must fix in Game 2 after Fire’s 88–79 win.

Speaking on the latest episode of It’s a Cole World, Bec Cole broke down Game 1 of the WNBL Grand Final series, where the Townsville Fire defeated the Perth Lynx 88–79 to take a 1–0 lead.

Cole highlighted Townsville’s edge on the glass (45–37) and their ability to generate 23 free-throw attempts as defining factors. With both teams cold from deep – Perth at 31 percent and Townsville at 25 percent from three – the Fire’s commitment to paint penetration and half-court execution proved decisive. Woods’ control in pick-and-roll actions set the tone, while balanced scoring kept scoreboard pressure on the Lynx.

Looking ahead to Game 2 in Perth, Cole was clear about what needs to change.

For the Lynx, it starts with rebounding and tempo. They must limit second-chance points, secure deeper touches for Han Xu, and create offence through defensive stops and transition play. More disruptive ball-screen coverage on Woods is non-negotiable.

For Townsville, Cole emphasised composure. Repeat the physical half-court defence, win the rebounding battle again, and stay confident in shot selection under Perth’s home-court momentum. Game 2, she said, will come down to control – Perth’s pace versus Townsville’s structure.
