WNBL champ takes over as Flames escape Northside
Chelsea Brook and Courtney Woods starred as North Women contenders continued separating.

Chelsea Brook and Courtney Woods delivered dominant performances as Mackay and Townsville secured critical North Women Round 5 victories.
Brook powered Mackay to a 32-point road win against Rockhampton, while Woods controlled a tight late-game finish as Townsville edged Northside in one of the closest games of the weekend.
Across the round, the league’s top contenders continued separating through offensive efficiency and defensive pressure as Mackay strengthened its place inside the championship race behind unbeaten Cairns and Southern Districts.

Chelsea Brook exploded for 24 points as Mackay Meteorettes overwhelmed Rockhampton Cyclones with one of the most dominant offensive performances of North Women Round 5.
Brook shot 10-from-15 from the field and knocked down four threes while repeatedly punishing Rockhampton’s defensive rotations in transition and half-court spacing actions.
Monique Bobongie added 14 points and nine assists, while River Baldwin contributed 14 points and seven rebounds on 66.7% shooting.
Sammie Puisis finished with 13 points and four assists as Mackay placed six players in double figures and shot 56% from the field.
The Meteorettes generated 26 assists on 42 made field goals and consistently created deep paint touches before kicking out to perimeter shooters.
Mackay’s offensive pressure fully broke the game open in the second quarter, where the Meteorettes exploded for 35 points to seize control.
The Meteorettes also dominated the glass 50-31 while forcing Rockhampton into difficult late-clock possessions throughout the second half.
Rockhampton still received a huge all-round performance from Gracie Stugart, who finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
Tai Wakelin-Gray added 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Bella Janes contributed 11 points.
But the Cyclones struggled matching Mackay’s offensive depth and efficiency, shooting just 34.8% overall and allowing 103 points.

Courtney Woods controlled the game late as Townsville Flames survived a strong Northside challenge to secure a five-point road win.
Woods finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists while repeatedly creating offence through transition attacks, isolation scoring and late-clock playmaking.
Chailee Ward added 21 points and knocked down five threes, while Mia Murray contributed 16 points on 54.5% shooting.
Townsville’s perimeter scoring proved decisive, with the Flames hitting 13 threes at 41.9% while maintaining offensive flow throughout the second half.
The Flames repeatedly punished Northside’s help defence through drive-and-kick actions and secondary ball movement, generating efficient perimeter looks across all four quarters.
Northside still produced strong offensive performances from Grace Ellis and Kahlaijah Dean.
Ellis finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds, while Dean added 20 points and five assists.
Nes'eya Parker-Williams contributed 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while Courtney Virgo knocked down five threes in a 15-point outing.
But Townsville’s late-game execution and shot-making separated the teams inside the final minutes as the Flames improved to 3-2.
