Duop Reath signs Suns two-way, Warriors waive Toohey
Reath stays in Phoenix on a two-way as Golden State cuts Toohey, leaving 11 Aussies on NBA deals.
- Phoenix converted Duop Reath's Exhibit 10 deal into a two-way contract
- Golden State waived Alex Toohey on Sunday, nine months after first releasing him
- Eleven Australians remain on NBA contracts, with two on two-way deals
Australian Boomers centre Duop Reath has signed a two-way contract with the Phoenix Suns, while at the same time former Sydney Kings NBL Next Star Alex Toohey was waived again by the Golden State Warriors.
Phoenix kept Reath, 30, by converting his Exhibit 10 training-camp deal.
A two-way contract keeps Reath inside the organisation without using one of the 15 standard roster spots. The Suns' G League affiliate is the Valley Suns, but it means Reath can play no more than 50 games for the NBA team.
Toohey, unfortunately, went the other way. The Warriors waived Canberra-born Toohey on Sunday (AEDT), nine months after they first waived him from his post-draft two-way contract ahead of left knee surgery. Golden State drafted him with the 52nd pick in 2025.
The move came on the same day Toohey was in the stands supporting Miela Sowah’s Golden State Valkyries against Isobel Borlase’s Atlanta Dream in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
The 22-year-old is expected to sign with the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State's G League affiliate. Toohey remains eligible for a two-way contract if one of the club's spots opens up.
But it leaves Toohey with options, especially the NBL. Speculation will likely heat up over the next couple of days, given how many NBL27 players are injured.
The two moves leave 11 Australians on NBA contracts, with Reath and Rocco Zikarsky the two on two-way deals and Ben Simmons the only one still without a guarantee, as tracked in our 2026-27 NBA contract status list.
The Warriors added Toohey to their Summer League roster, but he didn't play as he continued to rehab from his knee injury. [FIX: curly apostrophe made straight.] He played two minutes off the bench, with a rebound and an assist, in Golden State's 128-118 preseason win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, October 17 (AEDT), and finished with 10 points in four appearances across six games.
