Australian NBA star point guard Josh Giddey has lifted the lid on how he splashed the game-winning half-court shot that beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024-25 season.

Giddey, 23, launched his new YouTube Channel with a second-by-second analysis of the go-ahead three that delivered the Bulls a 119-117 win at United Centre on March 28, 2025.

“We spoke about this: if they score, we’ve got no timeout, so we’ve got to go,” Giddey said.

“I tried to get it to Coby (White). (Gabe) Vincent denied it. I thought about throwing it over the top, but it’s a tough play, and you don’t want to turn the ball over here.

“I get it into Pat (Williams), and he’s kind of cut off right there. (Austin) Reaves cuts him off, and there’s nowhere to go down that sideline.

“I come back up the middle. If you look at the clock, there are two seconds left.

“My thought process here is: can I get closer? I see Vooch, Vincent, Coby, LeBron (James) and Luka (Doncic) back. They’re all kind of building a wall at half court, so there’s nowhere really for me to go.

“I’m thinking, in this case, what’s the best shot we can get and the best look?

“At this point, I probably don’t have anyone to pass the ball to, so that’s out of the question. I’m thinking, ‘All right, I can take one more dribble and try to rise up into as normal a jump shot as I can’.

“Once I get there, there’s nowhere for me to go. There’s no one to pass to, and there’s one second left. I’m not going to pass the ball back to Pat for a tougher shot.

“So, yeah, let it fly.” (Over LeBron).

And we all know what happened after that.

In the channel's first 16:29-minute video, Giddey goes into exceptional detail about how the Bulls came back from 13 points down with five minutes to play, breaking down both Chicago’s offense and defense.

“There are five minutes left. We’re down 13 points, and 10 now after Pat makes a three,” Giddey explains.

“I’ll give you guys an insight into what we do defensively and offensively, and what they’re doing on both sides of the ball as well, to try to break it down in as much detail as I can.

"The Lakers are usually a pretty slow-paced team. They like to control the ball in the half-court and control the pace of the game. Before this clip started, they had been in this action four or five times down the floor. It had worked for them, and they got scores out of it.”

The Victorian-born point guard then explains every play until he gets to half-court and his game-winning prayer is answered.

“What’s up, guys? Welcome,” Giddey said to his channel, which already has 6.5K subscribers.

“This is a new YouTube channel that I’ve made, and something I’ve always been very, very passionate about is breaking down my game film and game film in general.

“It’s a big part of my routine: watching games back and then preparing for who we’re about to play by watching film.

“I just want to give you guys a little insight into how I go about breaking down film, what I see, what I look for, and the little things that the average fan might not realise or notice that go on in an NBA game.

“I’ll try to give you guys the best terminology I can and give you an inside insight into how I go about things in terms of film.”
