Blockbuster! Georgia Amoore signs with Perth Lynx

• Amoore signs with Perth for WNBL27, pending league approval
• The No.6 pick in the 2025 draft missed all of 2025 with an ACL
• She has started all 38 WNBA appearances this year at 3.4 assists

Australian WNBA point guard Georgia Amoore has signed with the Perth Lynx less than 24 hours after Sami Whitcomb was ruled out for the entire WNBL27 season.

Amoore, 25, was selected by the Washington Mystics in the 2025 WNBA Draft after her senior season in NCAA Division 1 with the Kentucky Wildcats.

She suffered a season-ending ACL injury in the Mystics' 2025 pre-season but has been a starter for the Mystics in her rookie season this year.

“I’m really excited to be joining Perth and getting the opportunity to come home and play in the WNBL,” Amoore said.

“From my first conversations with [head coach] Ryan [Petrik] and the club, I really liked the way they spoke about how they want to play. I love playing fast, getting up and down the floor and creating for the people around me, so I think it’s going to be a really good fit.

“To be able to bring my experiences back to Australia, join a club with high expectations and be part of a team that wants to compete for a championship is really exciting.

“I can’t wait to get over to Perth, meet the team and the fans and get to work.”

Perth Lynx Head Coach Ryan Petrik said: “Georgia’s competitiveness, basketball IQ and ability to play at pace made her an outstanding fit for the club.

“She is one of the smartest and most exciting Australian guards in the game, and we’re incredibly excited to bring her to Perth.

“She plays with pace, she can create her own shot, she makes the players around her better, and she has shown throughout her career that she embraces the big moments.

“We want to play fast, aggressive and unselfish basketball and Georgia fits that style perfectly. To bring an Australian guard of her caliber back home and into our program is massive for us.”

Amoore played five college seasons and started 155 of her 157 games, four years at Virginia Tech and a fifth at Kentucky. She finished with 2,460 points, 869 assists and 408 three-pointers, becoming just the third player in NCAA Division I women's history to reach 2,300 points and 800 assists. She averaged 15.7 points and 5.5 assists a game.

Amoore averaged 16.3 points and 4.9 assists as a junior, was named ACC Tournament MVP, and set an NCAA Tournament record with 24 three-pointers as Virginia Tech reached the first Final Four in the program's history. She stayed for a fourth year and the playmaking jumped from 4.9 assists to 6.8, while her field goal percentage climbed from 37.9 per cent to 41.2. Two All-ACC first teams and her first All-America honours came out of that stretch.

Kentucky got the best of her. In her final season Amoore averaged 19.6 points and 6.9 assists, shot a career-high 42.3 per cent from the field, and broke the program's single-season assists record with 213, a mark that had stood for more than four decades. She was first team All-SEC, second team AP All-America and a Naismith semi-finalist, and Washington took her sixth overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Amoore has is averaging 6.0 points, 3.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 38 starts for the playoff-bound 23-15 Mystics after the WNBA's FIBA Break for the 2026  Women's World Cup.

The Lynx play their first game of the 2026-27 WNBL season against the defending champion Townsville Fire in a WNBL26 Grand Final rematch on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
