NBL champion Will 'Davo' Hickey will team up with Bronny James at the South Bay Lakers after signing a deal for the remainder of the NBA G League season, reports NBL Pleb from Fox Sports Australia.
Hickey joins a South Bay team, who are currently sitting in top spot in the Western Conference with a 22-9 record, for the final late-season push.
South Bay also feature Australian assistant coach and former Townsville Crocodiles and Adelaide 36ers NBL assistant coach Liam Flynn on their staff.
Fox Sports Australia reported Hickey will see his first action for the Lakers this weekend.
The 27-year-old dynamic guard, who burst onto the scene during Illawarra's championship run in season 2024-25 where he was given the Grand Final MVP award by Matthew Dellavedova, is coming off a season for the Hawks where he averaged 12.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists while shooting 50% from the field.
Although it was a disrupted season for Hickey after starting the season sidelined with an eye injury and the Hawks never really recovered, struggling for any type of consistency as they tried to defend their title, missing the playoffs with a 13-20 record.
Hickey's highlight of the season came when playing for the Australian Boomers in a trans-Tasman clash with the New Zealand Tall Blacks, hitting a game-winning three in game two to give his side a 79-77 road victory and a 2-0 series win.
The former Melbourne United and South East Melbourne Phoenix development player spent time alongside Lachlan Olbrich at the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Summer League.
