Bourne, Talbot spearhead upset of WNBL season
7th-placed Adelaide dismantle 2nd Perth by 18 points at home

In a stunning display of dominance, the Adelaide Lightning struck down the Perth Lynx 87-69 (Game Centre) at home on Saturday, February 1, 2025, sending shockwaves through the WNBL.
The Lightning's dynamic duo of Isabelle Bourne and WNBA star Steph Talbot led the charge, each pouring in 21 points to electrify the crowd at Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
Adelaide went on a crushing 17-4 run with five minutes to go in the fourth to kill the game. It was 70-65 at the midway of the fourth quarter.
From the opening tip, Adelaide seized control, racing out to an early lead that they would never relinquish. The Lightning's suffocating defence held Perth to a mere 29.3% shooting from the field. As the game wore on, Adelaide's lead ballooned, reaching as high as 25 points in the fourth quarter.
Adelaide's dominance was evident in nearly every facet of the game. The Lightning outshot Perth 48% to 29.3% from the field, drew the rebounding battle 54-55, and dished out more assists (22-18). Perhaps most tellingly, Adelaide's interior presence was overwhelming, outscoring Perth in the paint by a staggering 44-18 margin.
Isabelle Bourne was nothing short of spectacular for Adelaide, notching a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. She was a force on both ends of the court, shooting an efficient 9-from-14 from the field while anchoring the Lightning's formidable defence.
Equally impressive was veteran Steph Talbot, who matched Bourne's 21 points while adding nine rebounds and three assists. The Opals star showcased her all-around game, knocking down shots from beyond the arc, finishing in traffic, and facilitating for teammates.
For Perth, WNBA star Amy Atwell provided a glimmer of hope, leading the team with 18 points including three triples. However, the Lynx struggled to find consistent offensive production elsewhere.
