Highlights

Josh Giddey scores a career-high 32 as the Chicago Bulls start 5-0 for first time in 29 years.

Australian point guard Josh Giddey has led the Chicago Bulls to their best start to a season — 5-0 — in 29 YEARS.

Twenty-nine years ago it was Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls in the midst of their second threepeat. Today it's Giddey, 23, who signed a USD $100M contract extension before the start of the season. That deal now looks significantly under market value.

Giddey has delivered an All-Star calibre start, averaging 19.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and 7.8 assists in the first five games.

He arrived at the United Centre dressed as a 2.01m Jason-like slasher horror film character from Friday the 13th for Halloween and set about terrorising Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks for a career-high 32 points in the first game of the NBA Cup on October 31, in the US. He added 10 rebounds and nine assists as the Bulls held off the Knicks 135-125.

"5-0 in front of this crowd," Giddey declared in the on-court post game interview.

"Unbelievable start to the year. At home, in front of this crowd, and it’s a Cup game, so we understood the point situation at the end and both teams trying to play right to that buzzer sound.

"But, you know, that’s a resilient win right there. I thought they came back, they really made a run — they got it back to, you know, three, four points — and credit to the guys: resilient. We fought back, we didn’t waver, we stuck together, and, you know, pulled out a big win against a really good team.

Giddey was asked about his new career high.

"I’m feeling good, and credit to my teammates and coaches for putting me in positions to be successful," he said.

"You know, they trust me to make plays, and I trust myself — trust the work — to make the right plays. So whether it’s scoring, passing, rebounding — whatever the game calls for on any given night — I’m ready for that challenge.

"I love leading this group. I love the guys that we have in this locker room. It’s a fun group to play with — it’s a really unselfish team — and we all enjoy and love playing with each other."

Giddey unveiled his new signature shoe, a perfect way to show off his new Puma kicks.

"This is actually my shoe — Puma — so shout out to them," Giddey said.

"I signed a four-year deal with them, and it’s my shoe — first time I’ve ever worn it. So it’s obviously very special.

"Every kid dreams of having a shoe growing up, so I’m very blessed and grateful to be able to wear mine tonight in front of this crowd."
