Lara Somfai and Max McKinnon open up to Jason Cadee on Cut to the Jase.

Two of Australia's brightest NCAA men's and women's college basketballers have spoken exclusively to former NBL star Jason Cadee in the latest episode of basketball.com.au's Cut to the Jase.

And Stanford freshman Lara Somfai, from Adelaide, has cleared up a small mystery for those new to her game.

“This is literally completely my fault cause I never corrected anyone,” she said of home to pronounce her last name.

“But, yeah, it’s Shom-Fey'i."

Somfai went on to explain she felt she needed to challenge herself to grow as a basketballer, and college basketball was an obvious next step.

“I completely fell in love with Stanford,” she added.

“Coming to Stanford it definitely opened my eyes to like more than a basketball player and a life outside of basketball for me.

“(But) genuinely, I do not think I’m playing great at all. I have so much to improve on I have so much to work on."

Somfai is already one of the leading freshman rebounders in the United States.

Brisbane senior guard Max Mackinnon, son of NBL legend Sam, transferred to LSU before the start of the season and is having a standout season at the Tigers in the powerhouse SEC.

"Just keep controlling what I can control right now and finish off this year at college and then see what comes from it obviously the NBL and Europe I love to love to do," he told Cadee.

“I think I can impact the game other ways other than just shooting so that’s  a factor for me, people start to run me off the line and I can show what else I can do."
