Smith stuffs stat sheet in 32 minutes for Dallas Wings

Australian Opals star Alanna Smith has picked the right month.
Just a month out from the Opals' World Cup opener in Berlin, the Dallas Wings forward produced the best game of an injury-riddled season: 21 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in 32 minutes. Every one of those four numbers is a season high across 23 games.
Before tonight, Alanna Smith had scored 90 points in 22 games. She scored 21 in this one.
Smith was dropped from the Dallas starting five for the July 31, game at Washington, with Awak Kuier taking her place. She was restored against Connecticut on August 2, 2026 but played only 14 minutes. Today (AEST) she started again and played 32, more than Arike Ogunbowale.
Dallas still lost, 96-92 at Washington as fellow Australian Georgia Amoore hit four of her six three-point attempts for the Mystics, finishing with 12 points and five assists in 29 minutes. Washington move to 17-12, Dallas fall to 19-12.
The WNBA pauses from August 30 to September 16 for the World Cup, so she has a fortnight of WNBA games left before she flies.
The rest of the Australians
Jade Melbourne had the busiest night of anyone. Thirty minutes, 13 points on 5-from-11, seven assists and 3-from-3 at the line, plus-9 for a Seattle Storm side that lost 92-86 to New York and sit 6-27. Australian Opals centre Ezi Magbegor added seven points and five rebounds in 17 minutes.
At the other end of that game Rebecca Allen was ruthless in limited minutes: 12 points in 19, 4-from-6 from the field, both her three-point attempts, two steals, plus-7 in the win.
Isobel Borlase did not score for the Atlanta Dream, going 0-from-1 in 17 minutes with three rebounds and two assists, but Atlanta won 96-82 and she finished plus-1. Sami Whitcomb was the opposite: nine points in 14 minutes off 3-from-6 from deep for a Phoenix Mercury side beaten by 14, and minus-18 for her trouble.
Anneli Maley did not dress.
Idle: Miela Sowah, Stephanie Talbot, Nyadiew Puoch, and Chloe Bibby, whose Minnesota Lynx debut is 11am AEST tomorrow.
