Australia rise to fourth in girls rankings

Australia have climbed to fourth in the latest FIBA World Ranking Girls.

The Gems moved up one place, jumping France, following an outstanding 2025 international campaign, highlighted by a silver medal at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2025 in Brno, Czechia. The result marked Australia’s return to the U19 World Cup final, having last secured silver n 2021.

Australia’s rise in the rankings was further underpinned by success at younger age levels, with the Gems winning both the FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup 2025 and the FIBA U17 Women’s Oceania Cup 2025.

The United States retained top spot after securing a fourth consecutive gold medal and an 11th overall title at the U19 Women’s World Cup. Spain remain second following a strong year across multiple European championships, while Canada hold third after a semi-final appearance at the U19 World Cup and a runner-up finish at the U16 Women’s AmeriCup

Australia are now closing the gap on Canada, with their recent results positioning them firmly inside the top four nations globally for girls’ basketball.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Slovenia climbed to sixth following a runner-up finish at the FIBA U16 Women’s EuroBasket, while Italy moved into the top ten after consistent performances at U18 and U16 level. Serbia and Poland were among the biggest movers inside the top 15, while Egypt continued their rise after winning the FIBA U16 Women’s AfroBasket.
