Legendary Los Angeles Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn coined the phrase Slam Dunk, now one of the most common descriptions in world basketball.
Hearn, who died on August 5, 2002 aged 85, was at the microphone for 3,338 games, first as a radio broadcaster and then simulcast on both TV and the "wireless".
So, in honour of Chick, basketball.com.au is tracking every slam dunk of NBL27 by player and team until: "The game's in the refrigerator, the door's closed, the light's out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard and the jello's jiggling!"
Every figure is read from the NBL play-by-play for all 13 games in Rounds 1 to 2, not entered by hand. 6 of the 63 dunks were alley-oop finishes, which is what the second column counts - they are part of the dunk total, not an addition to it. An alley-oop that is not dunked is not counted at all. Counts are of made attempts. Rounds 1 to 2 also produced 8 missed dunks (Jonah Bolden, Malique Lewis, Nick Rakocevic, Nate Hinton, Tyrell Harrison, Sam Waardenburg, Tanner Krebs, Keanu Pinder), which are not counted here. A tip-in is not recorded as a dunk: the league feed does not say which tip-ins were dunked, and there is no dunk column anywhere in the official box scores, so the play-by-play is the only source.
