What Happened

The Liberty led by a point, 30-29, after a high-scoring first quarter. But they extended their advantage in the second period, outscoring the Fever 25-17 to take a solid 55-46 lead into halftime. Jones established her presence early, contributing 14 first-half points.

Indiana mounted a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring New York 30-13 behind Boston's eight points and Clark's playmaking. The Fever took a 76-68 lead into the final period, but the defending champions showed their mettle, regrouped defensively, and held Indiana to just 12 points in the fourth quarter while scoring 22 of their own to secure the two-point victory.

Sabrina Ionescu added 23 points for New York, while Cloud filled the stat sheet with 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocks in a stellar two-way performance. For Indiana, Clark finished with 18 points and 10 assists, but her efficiency was hampered by shooting just 2-from-11 from three-point range.

The Liberty's balanced offensive attack proved decisive as they shot 46 per cent from the field (29-from-63) compared to Indiana's 44.9 per cent (35-from-78). While New York struggled from beyond the arc (25.9 per cent), they capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 25-from-32 attempts compared to Indiana's 11-from-15. The Fever's 16 turnovers ultimately proved costly in the narrow defeat.
