Patty Mills shows he's the sniper the Bullets need
Highlights
While Patty Mills to the Bullets rumours do the rounds, the Aussie star is firing in Spain
- Trevor Gleeson was 'waiting for Adelaide' to make NBL return
- Why Patty Mills could soon thrive in the NBL
- Mills' Olympic journey extends into Brisbane 2032
If you thought the legendary career of Patty Mills was over, you were wrong.
The Australian Boomers icon has starred in his professional return to the court with La Laguna Tenerife in Spain as shown by his most recent performance, where he exploded for seven three-pointers and 23 points in his team's 86-80 loss to UCAM Murcia in Liga ACB on ANZAC Day.
Mills, who has been tied to a return to the NBL with the Brisbane Bullets recently, went 7-from-13 from beyond the arc - proving he is still the offensive weapon and three-point sniper Will Weaver needs in southeast Queensland.
His showing against UCAM Murcia brought his total of three-pointers made to 19 in the past five games, shooting at more than 50% in two of those outings.
Highlights haven't been hard to come by for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist, who chose to showcase his talents in Europe after not being picked up by an NBA franchise.
Winding down towards the end of his illustrious career, which includes an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014 as well as five Olympic Games appearances, Mills has been linked to the Bullets after fellow Australian basketball legend Andrew Gaze said he heard he would be playing in Brisbane NBL27 on SEN Victoria's The Run Home with Andy Maher.
"A little birdie has given me some information and it's that Patty Mills, he's currently playing in Spain because he never got picked up in the NBA, and next year, he will be returning to the NBL and the birdie said that he'll be playing for the Brisbane Bullets next season," Gaze, a seven-time NBL MVP, said on the show.
"Patty Mills back in the NBL next season, playing for the NBL... well not playing for the NBL, back in the NBL... he will be playing for the NBL because I'm sure (they will be) helping the Bullets get him to come back.
"But the Brisbane Bullets is the one that seems to be the hottest.
"I'm declaring it, from a reasonably reliable source."
Mills' recent form in Spain has shown exactly what he could bring to the Bullets, who are looking for a revival after a wooden-spoon finish last season, following a disastrous tenure under former senior advisor Stu Lash, who parted ways with the franchise mid-way through the season.
The 37-year-old Canberra product would give the Bullets something they desperately need in three-point shooting after they finished NBL26 dead-last in perimeter shooting at just 28% for the season.
Mills would also put bums and seats, something the Bullets would also desire, especially since their recent move back to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, which can seat more than 10,000 fans at capacity.
Can the Bullets make it happen? Only time will tell.
