Aussie point guard Will McDowell-White scores nine points as JL Bourg secure EuroCup championship
- William McDowell-White signed a one-year deal with French club, JL Bourg Basket
- He last played in the NBL for the New Zealand Breakers in season 2023-24
- McDowell-White played for German club Alba Berlin last season
Australian point guard William McDowell-White is a EuroCup champion after helping lead his French side JL Bourg Basket to a 2-0 series win over Turkish powerhouse Besiktas overnight.
A game-winning layup from Adam Mokoka with just 1.1 seconds left on the clock allowed JL Bourg to finish with a 73-71 victory and sweep the series, crowning Bourg champions after a successful regular season, which saw them go 13-5 before beating Turk Telekom in the semi-final.
McDowell-White, who played at Alba Berlin in Germany last season, played 26 minutes and had nine points as well as three assists and two rebounds in game two.
He went 2-from-6 from the field and 1-from-3 from the three-point line and only had one turnover in arguably the biggest game of his professional career.
The performance completed a remarkable season in Europe from the 28-year-old Brisbane product after he was believed to be returning to the NBL during the offseason after playing in Germany but a late offer from JL Bourg was enough to attract him back to Europe.
His side have also been impressive in the LNB Pro A league in France, currently sitting fourth on the standings with a 17-9 record, with McDowell-White averaging an efficient six points, 4.9 assists and 2.3 rebounds - showcasing why so many NBL clubs, especially the Brisbane Bullets were chasing his services as a free agent last year.
The former Rio Grande Valley Vipers G League guard hasn't been in the NBL since his last stint with the New Zealand Breakers in NBL24. He helped the Breakers go within minutes of an NBL championship after forcing the Sydney Kings to game five of the 2023 grand final series.
It is believed McDowell-White will return to Europe next season.
