Revealed: Perth's plot to lure Patty Mills to Wildcats

The Perth Wildcats are reportedly plotting to lure Patty Mills to Western Australia.

Could Patty Mills be the answer to replacing six-time MVP Bryce Cotton for the Perth Wildcats?

Perth Wildcats are preparing to make a play for Australian veteran Patty Mills as talks to potentially lure the star to the Brisbane Bullets have hit a stalemate, reports Matt Logue from CODE Sports Basketball.

CODE Sports revealed the Wildcats will attempt to sign Mills as the club’s marquee man. Although signing the champion guard won’t be easy, the club plans to submit an offer.

It comes as Brisbane’s reported interest in the bronze medal-winning Boomer appears to have stalled. It’s understood the Bullets and Mills’ representatives had engaged in conversation about returning to the NBL but these discussions have since tapered off.

It is believed the veteran guard wanted a guarantee regarding members of his team travelling with the NBL side while also requiring specific accommodation.

Mills understandably has high professionalism expectations following 16 NBA seasons and five Olympic campaigns. He turns 38 in August but he is still playing high level basketball in Europe for Spanish club La Laguna Tenerife.

Mills is averaging 17.7 points and 1.3 assists in his six games for La Laguna thus far. While he is reportedly more open than ever before about a return to the NBL, the lure of Europe is appealing.

Mills’ specific contract with La Laguna isn’t public, but he is tipped to be among the top earners for foreign players on a deal worth over $1 million a season.
