UC Capitals edged Geelong 77–73 after a tense finish led by Jade Melbourne at AIS Arena.

UC Capitals closed the game with composure to defeat Geelong Venom 77–73 at AIS Arena on Saturday night, overcoming a fierce scoring display from Jazmin Shelley in a contest that swung relentlessly.

The match featured 25 lead changes, with the Capitals leading for 23:11 of game time. Scores remained tight through three quarters before the home side delivered a decisive 24–20 fourth quarter to secure the win.

Jade Melbourne was central to everything Canberra did offensively, finishing with 21 points, 10 assists and five rebounds while controlling tempo late. Captain Zitina Aokuso added 17 points on efficient finishing inside, while Sara Blicavs knocked down three triples on her way to 13 points.

Geelong was carried by an outstanding night from Jazmin Shelley, who poured in a game-high 29 points, including six three-pointers. Shyla Heal added 18 points, while Mackenzie Holmes chipped in 10, but the Venom could not find the final stops required down the stretch.

The Capitals shot 55 percent on two-point attempts and recorded 21 assists, with Melbourne’s playmaking proving the difference late as Geelong’s comeback push stalled in the closing minutes.

Canberra are now 6-6 at .500 while the Venom sunk further to 3-11 at the bottom.
