Madi Ryan, Luke Paul anchor U17 training squads

Two of Australia's best under-17 basketballers are part of the Australian Sapphires and Australian Crocs training camp squads preparing for the 2026 FIBA World Cup men's and women's tournaments later this year.

NBL Next Star Luke Paul is part of the 20-player men's squad and Madi Ryan, who played at three international tournaments last year, has been included in the Sapphires 19-player squad.

The Under-17 FIBA Men's World Cup is in Türkiye from June 27 to July 5 while the women's tournament is in the Czech Republic between July 11 and 19, 2026.

The Sapphires qualified for the World Cup after winning the 2025 FIBA Under-16 Women’s Asia Cup in Malaysia last September while the Croc qualified by winning the gold medal at the FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
