Johnny Furphy's tough start to his second NBA season continues after another injury

Johnny Furphy was back in street clothes as the Indiana Pacers fell to the Memphis Grizzlies 128-103 at the FedEx Forum to start the season with two straight losses.

Furphy, who missed a large portion of the preseason with an ankle injury, missed Indiana's second game of the 2025-26 season with a sore left foot.

It comes after the 20-year-old former Kansas Jayhawk played just one minute in the Pacers' season-opening loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in double overtime on October 24. Furphy had to wait 57 minutes to hit the court and didn't record a stat against last year's NBA Finals opponents.

The second-year wing's injury adds to an already injury-riddled Pacers line-up, who were also without Andrew Nembhard after the guard sat out with a shoulder issue.

Indiana are already without star guard Tyrese Haliburton for the season after he tore his achilles in game seven of the NBA Finals, while veteran TJ McConnell will be out until approximately mid-November with a hamstring injury.

Rookie guard Kam Jones (back) and two-way player Quenton Jackson (hamstring) are also missing for the Pacers.

Although Furphy missed the Grizzlies contest, fellow Australian Jock Landale had a bounce back game as Memphis recorded a 25-point home victory.

Landale was a +19 in 26 minutes, the best plus-minus in his team's starting five, and recorded eight points, eight rebounds and one assist.
