How new Wildcat almost became an Adelaide 36er

The Perth Wildcats finally have their import point guard but NBL legend Jason Cadee has revealed 10-year NBA veteran Brandon Knight almost became an Adelaide 36er several years ago.

Perth announced they have officially signed Knight - who played for the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks - to complete their roster and adding more firepower to a group which includes Kristian Doolittle, Jo Lual-Acuil and Dylan Windler.

The 34-year-old's signature is a significant boost for the Wildcats after falling in the semi-finals the past three seasons.

On the latest episode of the Cut to the Jase podcast, which was filmed before the signing, Cadee revealed how Knight almost became a teammate of his in Adelaide and he also believed the former Kentucky star wouldn't actually come to the NBL.

"(Knight) talked to Adelaide a few years ago when I was there when CJ (Bruton) was coaching," Cadee said on the basketball.com.au podcast.

"It never happened.

"His name's popped up a few times and it hasn't happened, so, I'm kind of leaning to the fact that it's just all smoke and probably won't happen."

Perth coach John Rillie will be hoping Knight is a better solution at the point guard position and provides more stability than the team had last season after Mason Jones was sacked before his replacement David Duke Jr battled injury issues and failed to make the impact the Wildcats needed.

It's also time for Rillie and the Wildcats to take the next step and make an NBL Championship Series, something the Red Army will demand after the success the franchise enjoyed while Bryce Cotton was running around RAC Arena.

Cadee said Knight was a good addition to an impressive core at the Wildcats.

"Brandon has been a very good player for a long period of time," Cadee said after the signing was announced.

"Obviously out of the NBA for a few years now but playing well in a league a lot of NBL players now go to in Puerto Rico.

"It’ll be interesting to see how he translates but his name has been floated around the NBL for a few years now so it’s good to see it come to life and can he be the missing link to take Perth to a title.

"I think he 100% will help them and adds another piece alongside the core group of Doolittle, Windler and JLA."

The NBL has had a season of NBA talents coming to the league, none bigger than the Melbourne United duo of Joe Ingles and Cole Anthony, while Knight adds more excitement to an already highly-anticipated NBL27.

Perth start their season against the South East Melbourne Phoenix on September 19 at RAC Arena.
