Chloe Bibby ready to lift Lynx in full circle moment

Australian Opal Chloe Bibby says she was just excited Minnesota Lynx's four-time WNBA championship coach Cheryl Reeve wanted her back at the franchise as she prepares for her first game since being signed by the league's top-ranked team.

Bibby was signed by the Lynx earlier in the week after impressing during her time on a Development Player contract with the Chicago Sky and will take the court for Minnesota for the first time against the Los Angeles Sparks at the Target Center at 11am (AEST) tomorrow.

It's a full circle moment for the 28-year-old forward after she made it to the later stages of training camp with Reeve and the Lynx back in 2022.

"(I was) just excited that Cheryl wanted me to come back, to be honest. I was like, really? Like, okay, that's exciting. I was just super excited," Bibby said in her first press conference since joining the 25-6 Lynx.

"Obviously, the standards are really high here and it's championship standards but I'm excited to be a part of that.

"This is a great organisation and just over the years you can see, you know, it's like contending for championships every year."

Bibby, who has had stints with the Golden State Valkyries as well as the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury after being selected by the Portland Fire in the expansion draft, said she's a different player than four years ago and credited her time in Europe for her development.

"That was a long time ago (since I was with the Lynx). I feel like I was a baby then out of college, I think I've grown in a lot of areas," she said.

"I've been overseas and I've been able to play and kind of become a different player than what I was in college. Obviously, I can still shoot the three... but I think just my decision-making and just overall game has improved tremendously.

"I've got four years under my belt since then and played multiple seasons in Europe, and I think Europe's really allowed me to kind of expand my game."

Aussies and Reeve, a four-time WNBA Coach of the Year, seem to go hand-in-hand after Opals star Alanna Smith played a key role in Minnesota's success in recent seasons.

Despite the Lynx's dominant regular season so far, made more impressive by the fact Napheesa Collier has missed most of the year through injury, Bibby joked with reporters that the franchise needed an Aussie to win a title and agreed with Reeve that our green and gold stars bring toughness.

"I think that's kind of our Aussie mentality and our national team as well," Bibby said.

"We kind of pride ourselves on that toughness and that grit, it's kind of embedded in us, I think and then we kind of bring that over here.

"I mean, that's why she brought me in, no? Trying to win a championship, you need an Aussie.

"I mean, I'm just super grateful to be here, and I think the Aussies that have been here have done a great job, so, hopefully I can lead in that as well.

Bibby was given an offer by the Lynx after her recent form and the Sky had the chance to match it but didn't with the reason believed to be tied to their salary cap situation.

"To be honest, I had no idea how it works, like, at all," she said.

"My agent just kind of told me what was happening and I was like 'you're going to have to break it down for me because I do not understand'. So, I think that the new CBA is amazing that we can have development players and then you're able to move up from that.

"But I think a lot of people, including myself, I had no idea how it worked. So, it was cool to see the process of like, 'OK, this is how it works' and yeah, it's just awesome for the league."

With her first game in a Lynx jersey not far away, Bibby said she was just focused on playing her role which would be to shoot the three-ball and bring energy.
