Highlights

Daniels snatched 229 steals in 2024-25. Alvin Robertson's all-time record of 301 is still out there.

  • Every Atlanta Hawks fixture of 2026-27 in Australian eastern time
  • Daniels took 229 steals in 2024-25, the most since Gary Payton
  • Atlanta play 26 games on an Australian weekend, more than any Aussie club

Atlanta Hawks and Australian Boomers guard Dyson Daniels nabbed more steals in a season than any player since 1996, then moved to the hardest position on the floor and kept doing it.

In 2026-27, he's more than likely moving back to being primarily an off-ball defender after the Hawks traded for Lu Dort, so another 200+ steals season is back on the table.

Sixty-six of Atlanta's 80 released games tip between 10am and 2pm on Australia's east coast, which is third best of the seven clubs carrying an Australian, behind Chicago on 69 and both Dallas and Minnesota on 67.

So for Daniels, Australian Boomers and Hawks teammate Jock Landale as for Josh Giddey, League Pass is not optional.

Only one Hawks game all season tips at 2pm or later, and that is fewer than any other club with an Australian on the roster.

The trade-off is at the other end. Thirteen games tip before 10am, and only Johnny Furphy's Pacers have more.

Twenty-six games fall on a Saturday or Sunday here, more than any other club carrying an Australian, and 21 of those 26 land inside the 10am to 2pm window.

Eighteen of Atlanta's fixtures are against another Australian, which is equal most with Chicago, Cleveland and Indiana.

Ten games have been given to American national television, but only two of those are on ESPN or ABC, which is the network Australians reach through Kayo, Foxtel and Disney+.

Atlanta released 80 games, not 82, today. The NBA holds two back per club and fills them in once the NBA Cup knockout rounds are settled. This list will grow by two. Nothing on it will move.

One trap before you set an alarm.

Australian daylight saving ends on Sunday, April 4, 2027, with four Atlanta games still to play. Everything up to Saturday, April 3 is AEDT and the last four are AEST. Every row in the table carries its own label.

Source: the NBA’s 2026-27 schedule, released 5:00am AEST Friday 14 August 2026. Every time here is derived from the game’s UTC instant rather than copied from a printed clock, and each row carries its own zone label — Australian daylight saving ends on Sunday 4 April 2027, inside the season, so a tip-off at the same instant reads 10:00am on Saturday 3 April and 9:00am on Sunday 4 April.

The earliest start of the year is a cruel one, Philadelphia away at 3am AEST on Monday, April 5, the day after the clocks go back.

Daniels stole the ball 229 times in 76 games in 2024-25, which was the most in a single season since Gary Payton's 231 for Seattle in 1995-96, and it made him the 36th player in NBA history to reach 200 in a season.

He was the youngest ever to do it. The next youngest was Magic Johnson in 1981-82.

It won him Most Improved Player, and it should have won him more. He finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting to Evan Mobley.

Then Atlanta moved him to point guard. Trae Young's knee injury early in 2025-26 pushed Daniels into full-time lead-guard duties, and the reaction was that his game had gone backwards, because his scoring fell from 14.1 points a game to 10.1 and his three-point shooting collapsed to 18.8 per cent on 22-from-117.

But his rebounds and assists both hit career highs. He played the second-most minutes of any player in the league. And bball-index's LEBRON metric, which measures impact per 100 possessions rather than counting stats, had him more than double his figure from the season before, 1.02 to 2.18.

The same metric puts him above the 90th percentile in fifteen separate categories, and at 100 in three of them: Perimeter Isolation Defense, Guarded Midrange Talent and Matchup Difficulty.

Daniels draws the hardest assignment on the floor more often than anyone, and he now does it while running the offence.

But there is one number still out there.

Alvin Robertson's 301 steals in 1985-86, and nobody has been near it in 40 years. Daniels finished 72 short in his best season, and he has since had a run of 70 straight games with a steal, which is the fourth-longest streak in NBA history behind Chris Paul, Robertson and Michael Jordan. That run lasted 349 days before Washington ended it in November.

Robertson's 301 is the number to watch (again).

Atlanta open against Orlando at 10am AEDT on Thursday, October 22, 2026, and close against Cleveland at 8am AEST on Monday, April 12.
