Red Flaggs in Dallas as Hawks win 11th straight
Highlights
The Atlanta Hawks are closing in on a playoff sport after extending their winning streak to 11 games
- Josh Giddey explodes into historic triple-double form after minutes restriction after injury
- Tracking every Dyson Daniels game in 2025-26
- LeBron James accused of stat-padding by not retiring
While the NBA's leading scorer Luka Doncic was putting on a show in Houston to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to their seventh straight victory, Dyson Daniels and the rampaging Atlanta Hawks were putting a beatdown on the lottery-bound Dallas Mavericks.
Daniels was at his best for the Hawks, finding his offensive game and almost being on triple-double watch, as Atlanta earned a 135-120 win over the hapless Mavericks at the American Airlines Center to extend their winning streak to 11 games.
The Australian Boomers backcourt star had 19 points, going 9-from-13 from the field, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists as he and Jalen Johnson continue to orchestrate coach Quin Snyder's offence to perfection.
Daniels also had two steals and did an impressive defensive job on Rookie of the Year favourite, Cooper Flagg, who had just 17 points on 6-from-15 shooting with six turnovers for the game.
Fellow Aussie and Hawks big man Jock Landale played 19 minutes and only had five points but continues to have an impact with his new team, dishing out five assists as he plays a valuable role.
The result keeps Atlanta as the hottest team in the NBA and just 0.5 games out of Orlando Magic's sixth spot on the Eastern Conference ladder, which would guarantee them a playoff position rather than fighting for a spot in the play-in games.
The Hawks will travel across Texas to face the Houston Rockets, who just lost back-to-back home games to the Lakers, on Saturday (AEDT).
Dallas' loss and poor season, on top of Doncic dominating for the Lakers, pours salt on a very sore wound for Mavericks fans after his controversial trade last season. It continues the Nico Harrison shadow which looms over the organisation, which The Athletic's Sam Vecenie told basketball.com.au also included Aussie Josh Green's trade from the Mavericks to Charlotte.
NBA BOX SCORE: Minnesota Timberwolves vs Utah Jazz
There's no doubt Aussie veteran Joe Ingles is a fan favourite for Minnesota Timberwolves fans after the crowd erupted when he hit a late-game three in the team's 147-111 win over the Utah Jazz at the Target Center.
Ingles seven points in seven minutes, going 3-from-4 from the field and 1-from-2 from beyond the arc, as Minnesota dismantled the tanking Jazz at home. The Boomers legend's celebration when he connected on a three drew laughter from his teammates on the sideline.
Five players scored in double figures for the Timberwolves, who were without star Anthony Edwards.
NBA BOX SCORE: Indiana Pacers vs Portland Trail Blazers
Matisse Thybulle was one of only two bench players in the positive in the plus-minus column for the Portland Trail Blazers in their 127-119 win over the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Thybulle played 14 minutes and had six points, two rebounds, one steal and one block in the eight-point victory.
Johnny Furphy remains out for the Pacers after suffering a torn ACL earlier in the season.
NBA BOX SCORE: Chicago Bulls vs Toronto Raptors
Josh Giddey and the Chicago Bulls had a night to forget as they were demolished 139-109 by the Toronto Raptors at the United Center.
After recent triple-double performances, where he passed Michael Jordan and Grant Hill on the NBA's all-time triple-double list, Giddey struggled to find any rhythm, having just nine points in 27 minutes, going 4-from-13 from the field and 1-from-8 from the three-point line.
He also failed to grab a rebound and only had three assists.
Aussie teammate Lachlan Olbrich played eight minutes for the Bulls and had two points, two rebounds and two steals.
