Dyson Daniels extends his steal streak to 62 games after setting NBA record for 21-year-old players

Australian Dyson Daniels is seventh all-time on the list for consecutive NBA games with at least one steal.

He also holds the NBA all-time record for the most steals and steals per game by a 21-year-old, established last season when he stripped 229 steals at 3.01 per game in a single season.

Daniels, now 22, broke the Atlanta Hawks franchise record against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday, November 9 (AEDT) and now has Gary "The Glove" Payton, Mike Conley and Victor Oladipo in his sights.

The Bendigo-born two-way guard has snatched at least one steal in 62 straight games. Future First Ballot Hall of Famer Chris Paul holds the all-time NBA record with 108 straight games with a steal. Alvin Robertson, who holds the record for steals in a single season at 301, is second with 105 straight games. Daniels needs a steal in his three games move into fourth behind Michael Jordan.

Daniels, in his first year with the Hawks after being trade by the New Orleans Pelicans, won the NBA's Most Improved Player last season, finishing the regular season leading the NBA in six key defensive categories:

  • Total deflections: 443
  • Deflections per game: 5.8
  • Total stocks: 284 (steals + blocks)
  • Total stops: 297 (steals + blocks + offensive fouls drawn)

The 229 steals is the most in a single season since Defensive Player of the Year Gary Payton in 1996.
