WNBA Commissioner's Cup

Australian rookie point guard Georgia Amoore helped keep the Washington Mystics alive in the WNBA Commissioner's Cup as Sonia Citron hit a buzzer-beater to stun Sandy Brondello's Toronto Tempo 86-85.

It was one of the first opportunities for Australia and Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello to get an up close look at the potential Opals guard.

Amoore played 26 minutes and finished with one point and seven assists, helping the Mystics improve to 2-2 in Eastern Conference Commissioner's Cup play. The rookie struggled with her shot, missing all four of her attempts from beyond the arc, but orchestrated Washington's offence with a team-high seven assists.

Citron scored 17 points and sank the game-winning fadeaway jumper as time expired after Lauren Betts won a jump ball with 2.1 seconds remaining. The No. 4 overall pick enjoyed the best game of her young career, scoring a career-high 18 points on 8-from-9 shooting in a career-high 21 minutes.

Michaela Onyenwere also scored 17 points for Washington, while Shakira Austin recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds despite committing a career-high nine turnovers. The Mystics shot just 2-from-18 from three-point range and committed a season-high 22 turnovers but found a way to survive.

Toronto mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback behind Marina Mabrey, who scored 18 of her 27 points in the final term. Mabrey drilled five threes, including a four-point play and a pull-up triple in the final minute to give the Tempo an 84-83 lead with 31.6 seconds remaining.

Brittney Sykes answered with a driving layup before Citron delivered the final blow.

The loss dropped Brondello's Tempo to 2-2 in Commissioner's Cup play, while Washington remained mathematically alive behind unbeaten New York (4-0) and third-placed Atlanta (3-2) in the Eastern Conference standings.

Nyara Sabally did not play for Toronto because of a right hamstring injury.
