Olbrich grabs opportunity as Bulls score rare win

While there's a mountain of uncertainty surrounding the future of the Chicago Bulls, Aussie rookie Lachlan Olbrich is taking his opportunity at the NBA level while he can get it, helping the team to a rare convincing win over the hapless Washington Wizards.
Olbrich, who was signed to a two-way deal by the Bulls after being selected 55th overall in last year's draft, appeared in his 33rd game with the iconic franchise as they crawl towards the end of the regular season with an extremely undermanned roster, which includes the absence of Josh Giddey due to "injury management".
The 22-year-old played 21 minutes off the bench as Chicago dismantled the Wizards 129-98 at Capital One Arena in a battle of teams prioritising a better percentage at a high lottery pick in the 2026 draft.
Olbrich, an NBL champion with the Illawarra Hawks, had seven points - going 3-from-6 from the field - as well as seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists as he continues to show he can play a role on the NBA stage.
The 31-point win comes at a time, where the future of the Bulls franchise is up in the air after president Michael Reinsdorf fired both front office executives Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley following a long list of questionable roster decisions in recent seasons.
Retaining coach Billy Donovan is reportedly a priority for Chicago but it's uncertain if the former Oklahoma City Thunder and Florida Gators mentor will stay with the Bulls.
NBA BOX SCORE: Washington Wizards vs Chicago Bulls
Lachlan Olbrich was a +17 off the bench for the Bulls as they recorded their 30th win of the season despite missing several stars, including Josh Giddey.
The Bulls remain in 12th spot in the Eastern Conference and with just three games left in the regular season, it's hard to see Giddey returning to the court at any point.
NBA BOX SCORE: Boston Celtics vs Charlotte Hornets
Aussie Josh Green has hit a rough run of form as the Charlotte Hornets seem headed towards the Play-In Tournament.
The three-and-defence specialist played just seven minutes off the bench for three points, going 1-from-2 from the three-point line, and grabbing two rebounds as Charlotte lost 113-102 at the TD Garden.
Charlotte are currently in ninth position in the Eastern Conference but are only half a game behind the Orlando Magic and Philadelphia 76ers.
NBA BOX SCORE: Indiana Pacers vs Minnesota Timberwolves
Aussie veteran Joe Ingles was a DNP Coach's Decision as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Indiana Pacers 124-104 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Fellow Aussie Johnny Furphy remains sidelined for the Pacers as he recovers from an ACL injury.
