NBL1 Central Round 6 on May 10, 2025: Sturt's Sharif Black explodes for 43 points

  • Sharif Black delivers masterful 43-point performance as Sturt dominates West Adelaide 114-88
  • North Adelaide's balanced attack leads to 92-77 win against Mavericks
  • Alexander Starling posts impressive 29-point, 20-rebound double-double in Forestville's victory

Central Districts vs Norwood

Central Districts secured an 87-77 victory against Norwood at The ARC Campbelltown on Sunday, with Kevin Baker delivering a stellar double-double performance of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Koen Sapwell matched Baker's 19-point output while Nigerian-born talent Efemena Abogidi added 14 points in just 16 minutes of action as the Lions controlled the glass with a decisive 54-40 rebounding advantage.

Despite trailing early, Central Districts used a 13-point scoring run to build a lead that reached 15 points at its peak. Riley Harrap put forth a valiant effort for Norwood with a game-high 28 points on efficient 9-from-19 shooting, while Cooper Osborne contributed 16 points and seven rebounds. However, Norwood's poor three-point shooting (21.2%) and struggles at the free-throw line (14-from-28) ultimately proved costly. Jack Stanwix was a defensive catalyst for Central Districts with four steals as they improved their position in the NBL1 Central standings heading into their Round 8 matchup against Southern Tigers on May 24.

Mavericks vs North Adelaide

The North Adelaide Rockets (8-2) secured a convincing 92-77 win against the Eastern Mavericks (5-5) at The Lights Community and Sports Centre. Bijan Johnson delivered an outstanding all-round performance with 22 points and 10 assists for a double-double, while American import Koop McCalop dominated with 21 points and 11 rebounds in just under 20 minutes of play.

This victory extends North Adelaide's winning streak to three games and strengthens their position near the top of the NBL1 Central standings. Despite BJ Symons' efficient 26-point effort on 10-from-17 shooting for the Mavericks, North Adelaide's superior shooting (48.6% from the field compared to the Mavericks' 37.5%) and dominance in the paint (42-36 points advantage) proved decisive. The Rockets led for nearly 40 minutes of game time, building a lead that reached 19 points.

Forestville vs South Adelaide

The Forestville Eagles (7-3) overpowered South Adelaide Panthers (2-8) 96-83 at Mitchell Park Sports and Community Centre. Alexander Starling delivered a spectacular performance with 29 points, 20 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists, while veteran Daniel Johnson contributed 22 points and 10 rebounds in a dominant frontcourt display.

The Eagles controlled the boards with a 49-43 rebounding advantage and shot an efficient 44% from the field. The victory came despite a solid effort from South Adelaide's Lloyd McVeigh who scored 18 points, and Chris Brandon's double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Forestville built a lead as large as 15 points and maintained control throughout, leading for nearly 40 minutes and showcasing their depth with six players scoring eight or more points.

Sturt vs West Adelaide

The Sturt Sabres (9-1) delivered a high-scoring 114-88 triumph against West Adelaide Bearcats (4-6) at Port Adelaide Recreation Centre. Sharif Black exploded for a spectacular 43 points on outstanding 16-from-25 shooting, including 7-from-11 from three-point range, while adding 8 rebounds and 4 assists in a dominant performance.

Sturt's offensive outburst featured exceptional shooting efficiency with 57.5% from the field and an impressive 53.3% from beyond the arc. Sam Daly added 16 points and 6 assists while Ben Griscti contributed 15 points. Despite Keanu Rasmussen's 31 points and Jacob Tryon's 20 points for West Adelaide, the Sabres' rebounding advantage (46-28) and fast-break points (20-5) helped them build a lead that stretched to 26 points. The victory solidifies Sturt's position atop the NBL1 Central standings.

Southern Tigers vs Woodville

The Woodville Warriors (6-4) secured a convincing 94-69 victory against the Southern Tigers (3-7) at St Clair Recreation Centre. Tim Troussel delivered an exceptional performance with 26 points on 12-from-17 shooting and 8 rebounds, while Steven Parfitt added 21 points and 9 rebounds off the bench in just 20 minutes.

The Warriors dominated inside, outscoring the Tigers 64-40 in the paint while shooting an efficient 51.9% from the field. Despite Sunday Bol's 19 points and Jarvis Doles' double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds for Southern, Woodville controlled the glass with a 50-39 rebounding advantage. The Warriors' bench contributed 33 points as they built their lead to as many as 36 points. The result strengthens Woodville's mid-table position while handing Southern their fourth consecutive defeat.
