'Kouat a show': Noi drops 40 in Sharks win
NBL1 East Round 6 on May 10, 2025: Cherry, Parsons, Young shine with double-doubles
- BA CoE's Sebastien Emenalo lit up Inner West with 22 points including six threes
- Kouat Noi erupts for 40 points as Sutherland dominates Newcastle

BA CoE vs Inner West
BA Centre of Excellence defeated Inner West 83-73 at Concord Recreational Centre, with Sebastien Emenalo delivering an outstanding performance with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including a red-hot 6-from-11 from behind the arc. Luke Fennell added 17 points, while Ajak Nyuon contributed 14 points on efficient 5-from-8 shooting.
The CoE squad took control with a 21-point lead at one stage, dominating the glass with a 54-33 rebounding advantage. Ramon Cao led Inner West with 23 points including five triples, while Dalen Ridgnal had a solid all-round game with 19 points, six rebounds and three steals. The significant difference came inside, with CoE outscoring Inner West 44-16 in the paint.
Hills vs Albury Wodonga
Hills Hornets secured a 91-82 home victory against Albury Wodonga at Hills Basketball Stadium, with Meekness Payne leading the charge with 21 points on efficient 8-of-15 shooting including three triples. Saxon Orsini and Liam Moss each contributed 15 points, with Orsini adding eight rebounds.
Point guard Pafe Momoisea orchestrated the offense brilliantly with 11 assists and three steals as Hills shot a solid 38 percent from three-point range. For the visitors, Matthew Gray produced a stellar 26-point performance on 10-of-20 shooting, while Ahren Freeman added 17 points and nine rebounds despite struggling with six turnovers. Hills dominated the offensive glass 23-10, converting into a decisive 19-4 advantage in second-chance points.
Illawarra vs Penrith
Illawarra secured a tight 86-81 road win against Penrith at Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre, with Lachlan Dent leading the way with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Kobe McDowell-White delivered an all-round performance with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Matthew Mims added 17 points on an outstanding 5-from-9 shooting from deep.
The Hawks withstood 20 lead changes in this back-and-forth contest, with their superior free-throw shooting (72.7% compared to 61.9%) proving crucial down the stretch. For Penrith, Makur Jongkuch impressed with 21 points on efficient 7-of-13 shooting, while Zeke Evans recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Despite winning the turnover battle 15-10, Penrith couldn't overcome Illawarra's balanced attack.
Central Coast vs Maitland
Central Coast claimed a 91-83 victory against Maitland at Maitland Federation Centre, with Klairus Amir exploding for 25 points including 5-from-8 from three-point range. The Crusaders secured the win behind two impressive double-doubles as Lino Manhom dominated with 16 points and 13 rebounds plus five blocks, while Garric Young added 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite committing 25 turnovers, Central Coast shot an outstanding 56.7% from the field and knocked down 10-of-20 three-pointers. Billy Parsons led Maitland with 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals, but the Mustangs struggled from deep, shooting a dismal 16.7% (3-of-18) from beyond the arc. The visitors controlled the glass with a 47-35 rebounding edge, helping secure their fifth win of the season.
Newcastle vs Canberra
Newcastle edged out Canberra 75-69 at Newcastle Basketball Stadium behind Myles Cherry's dominant 21-point, 15-rebound performance that included four blocks. The big man shot an efficient 10-of-19 from the field as the Hunters secured their fourth consecutive victory. Ryan Beisty recorded a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, while Kobe Shannon added 15 points.
Canberra's Glenn Morison led all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds, while William Mayfield contributed 20 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort. The Gunners struggled from three-point range, shooting just 20.6% (7-of-34), while Newcastle connected at a 37.5% clip from deep. Jaidyn Goodwin orchestrated the Newcastle offense with 10 assists as the Hunters maintained their position near the top of the NBL1 East standings.
Sydney 80 def. Manly Warringah 65
Sydney (12-5) secured a solid 80-65 win against Manly Warringah (10-7) at Comets Stadium in front of a passionate crowd. Biwali Bayles delivered an exceptional performance, recording a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Comets to victory.
Sydney dominated the glass with a 46-35 rebounding advantage, despite Mason Bragg's stellar effort for Manly with 21 points and seven rebounds. The Comets led by as many as 22 points during the contest, with Obiri Kyei contributing 17 points and nine boards, while veteran Anthony Mundine added 14 points including four triples. Sydney's efficient ball movement resulted in 14 assists compared to Manly's nine in what proved to be a comprehensive victory.
Norths Bears 97 def. Penrith 86
The Norths Bears (11-6) secured a hard-fought 97-86 victory over Penrith (9-8) at North Sydney Indoor Sports Centre. Hunter Goodrick was outstanding for the Bears with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Austin Patterson delivered a stellar performance with 22 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
The Bears caught fire from beyond the arc, connecting on 11-of-29 three-point attempts (37.9%) compared to Penrith's dismal 3-of-22 (13.6%). Despite the loss, Benjamin Kearins led Penrith with 15 points and seven assists, while Jonah Pares contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. The game featured an incredible 35 lead changes, highlighting the competitive nature of the contest, with the Bears' superior three-point shooting ultimately making the difference.
BA CoE 68 def. Hills 58
The Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence (9-8) overcame Hills (7-10) 68-58 at Hills Basketball Stadium. Luke Fennell led the CoE with 14 points, while Roor Akhuar added 10 points and seven rebounds in an impressive performance.
BA CoE dominated inside, outscoring Hills 40-22 in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 50-39. Hills struggled offensively, shooting a lacklustre 27.4% from the field including just 18.2% from three-point range. Meekness Payne was the standout for Hills with 12 points, while Jacob Foy contributed 11 points but hit just 3-of-11 from the field. The CoE's defensive effort proved decisive, holding Hills to single-digit scoring in multiple quarters.
Bankstown 107 def. Albury Wodonga 87
Bankstown (14-3) continued their impressive form with a 107-87 victory over Albury Wodonga (8-9) at Bankstown Basketball Stadium. Jaylin Galloway delivered a superb all-round performance, registering a double-double with 37 points and 13 rebounds, alongside three assists and four steals.
The home team shot an efficient 46.8% from the field and connected on 13 three-pointers at a 37.1% clip. Jason Cadee orchestrated the offense masterfully with 22 points and 11 assists for Bankstown. Albury Wodonga's Ahren Freeman was outstanding in defeat, pouring in 39 points on efficient 59.3% shooting, but received minimal support from his teammates. Bankstown's victory was fueled by balanced scoring and strong team defense, forcing 15 turnovers while committing just 12 of their own.
Central Coast 97 def. Inner West 81
Central Coast (11-6) demonstrated their offensive prowess in a commanding 97-81 win over Inner West (7-10) at Breakers Indoor Sports Stadium. Ilisia Washington led the scoring with 23 points on outstanding 9-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range.
The Breakers dominated inside, outrebounding Inner West 52-33 and outscoring them 56-20 in the paint. Garric Young and Lino Manhom both recorded double-doubles for Central Coast, with Young tallying 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Manhom added 16 points and 15 boards. Maxwell Clark and Mirko Djeric tried valiantly for Inner West with 22 and 16 points respectively, but their team's dismal 36.8% shooting proved too much to overcome against Central Coast's efficient offense.
Hornsby KuRingGai 100 def. Illawarra 69
Hornsby KuRingGai (12-5) delivered a dominant performance in their 100-69 triumph over Illawarra (6-11) at The Brickpit. Akil Douglas was outstanding with 25 points on efficient 56.3% shooting, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
The Spiders showcased balanced scoring with Daniel Titus and Mohamed Kone each contributing 17 points, while Titus also secured a double-double with 10 rebounds. Hornsby's ball movement was exceptional, recording 22 assists to Illawarra's 16. Kobe McDowell-White led Illawarra with 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists, but the team struggled from the field, shooting just 36.5% overall. Hornsby pulled away decisively in the second half, leading by as much as 35 points in a comprehensive display.
Canberra 72 lost Maitland 86
Maitland (10-7) secured a solid 86-72 home victory against Canberra (7-10) at Maitland Federation Centre. Daniel Millburn led the way for Maitland with an outstanding 24 points on efficient 10-of-17 shooting, while Christian Little added 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Despite William Mayfield's tremendous 30-point, 15-rebound effort for Canberra, they couldn't overcome Maitland's dominant inside presence. The Mustangs outscored Canberra 40-28 in the paint and generated 13 fast-break points to control the tempo. Mandrell Worthy contributed 14 points for Maitland, who shot 41.3% from the field compared to Canberra's 33.3%. Maitland's superior ball movement was evident with 18 assists to Canberra's 11 in what proved to be a comfortable victory.
Newcastle 74 lost Sutherland 103
Sutherland (13-4) delivered a devastating offensive display in their 103-74 thrashing of Newcastle (5-12) at Sutherland Basketball Stadium. Kouat Noi was simply unstoppable, pouring in 40 points on efficient 13-of-25 shooting, including 4-of-11 from deep and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Jason Spurgin recorded an impressive double-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists, while Lochlan Hutchison added 11 points, five rebounds, and eight assists in a comprehensive team performance. Matur Maluach led Newcastle with 16 points, but the visitors struggled from the field, shooting just 36.6% overall. Sutherland dominated inside, outscoring Newcastle 52-20 in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 50-38 in what was a commanding victory from start to finish.
