NBL1 North Men Conference Round 3 — May 16-18, 2025: Caps demolish Cairns, Phoenix thrash Mackay.

Brisbane @ Cairns

Brisbane dominated Cairns 111-75 at Trinity Ford Stadium, showcasing their offensive firepower with seven players scoring eight or more points.

Isaih Tueta led all Brisbane scorers with 19 points while shooting an efficient 5-from-9 from the field, including 3-from-5 from beyond the arc. Uche Dibiamaka and Samuel McDaniel each added 18 points in the blowout victory.

The Capitals established control early, building a 36-point lead while shooting an outstanding 55.1% from the field compared to Cairns' dismal 33.8%. Brisbane's ball movement was exceptional with 22 assists to Cairns' eight, and they dominated the glass with a 54-31 rebounding advantage.

Kody Stattmann led Cairns with 23 points, but it wasn't enough to overcome Brisbane's all-round effort as the Bullets pushed their unbeaten streak to three games.

Logan @ Gold Coast

Gold Coast secured a thrilling 88-86 victory against Logan at Carrara Stadium in a game that featured 22 lead changes and seven ties.

Reuben Te Rangi delivered a stellar performance with 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Boston Mazlin contributed 24 points, nine rebounds, and four steals in the hard-fought win.

This back-and-forth contest saw neither team lead by more than nine points. Logan's Matt Kenyon recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, while Callum Dalton added 24 points on an efficient 12-from-21 shooting.

Gold Coast's defence proved crucial down the stretch, forcing 14 Logan turnovers while committing just six of their own. Charles Smith IV added 19 points on 7-from-9 shooting with three steals for the victorious Rollers.

SW Metro @ Ipswich

Ipswich edged out SW Metro 93-86 at JBS Stadium in another tightly contested matchup.

Lamar Patterson was outstanding with 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists to lead the Force to victory. Ngor Nai and William Mahoney each contributed 15 points, with Mahoney adding six rebounds and three assists.

The game featured 22 lead changes and seven ties, with Ipswich ultimately prevailing through superior inside play (56-48 points in the paint) and second-chance points (17-2). SW Metro's Kai Woodfall led all scorers with 28 points on outstanding 6-from-13 three-point shooting, while Dragan Stajic dished out 12 assists.

Ipswich's Kane Bishop (12 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals) filled the stat sheet in a stellar two-way performance to help seal the win.

Northside @ Southern Districts

Southern Districts came from behind to defeat Northside 83-79 at Rowland Cowan Stadium. Tamuri Wigness led the Spartans with 21 points on an efficient 8-from-13 shooting and three steals.

Max Kerle added 16 points off the bench, hitting 3-from-5 from downtown, while Blake Jones recorded a dominant double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

Despite Northside controlling most of the game and leading for over 31 minutes, Southern Districts rallied late behind Wigness's scoring and Jones's rebounding. Tyler Williams paced Northside with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals, while Nikau McCullough contributed 18 points including 4-from-9 from three-point range.

The Wizards' 17 turnovers proved costly in the final outcome as Southern Districts made key plays down the stretch.

Mackay @ Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast put on an offensive clinic in their 121-94 victory against Mackay at Maroochydore Stadium as Deshawn Ross-Paiwan led the Phoenix with 25 points, shooting a sizzling 5-from-8 from three-point range, while Jamaal Robateau added 24 points with 5 three-pointers of his own in his 100th senior game.

The Phoenix were on fire from beyond the arc, hitting 16-from-40 (40%) compared to Mackay's 6-from-25 (24%). Sunshine Coast also dominated the boards 54-35, including 18 offensive rebounds that led to 18 second-chance points. Nelson Kahler posted a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Phoenix.

Makuach Maluach led Mackay with 21 points and 6 rebounds, but the Meteors struggled defensively throughout as Sunshine Coast maintained their perfect start to the season.

Brisbane @ Townsville

Brisbane secured an 82-71 victory against Townsville at StarFM Stadium with a stellar rebounding performance led by Matthew Johns and Cameron Thew, who both recorded double-doubles.

Johns collected 15 rebounds to go with 14 points, while Thew added 13 boards and 12 points as Brisbane outrebounded their opponents 46-45 despite playing on the road.

Uche Dibiamaka paced Brisbane's scoring with 18 points in an efficient outing, while Timothy Soong contributed 14 points on an outstanding 71.4% shooting from the field. Townsville struggled mightily from beyond the arc, connecting on just two of 23 attempts for a dismal 8.7% three-point percentage.

Ethan Betts led all scorers with 20 points and eight assists for the home side, but Townsville's lack of perimeter shooting allowed Brisbane to pull away in the second half, extending their lead to as many as 11 points. Harrison Pennisi provided a spark off the bench for Townsville with 15 points on 63.6% shooting and seven rebounds in just 11 minutes of play.
