Sabres have a whole lot of 'Funda' against Miners
NBL South Conference Round 7 — May, 16-17, 2025: Sandringham stars combine for 52 points
- Sandringham's Isis Lopes and Funda Nakkasoglu combined for 52 points in decisive win against Ballarat
- Lauren Scherf dominated with 36 points and 19 rebounds in Frankston's victory over Casey
- Diamond Valley's Tayha Watkins shot an outstanding 85% from the field in win against Kilsyth
Sandringham vs Ballarat
Sandringham (12-2) cruised to a dominant 109-72 victory against Ballarat (4-10) at Southern Basketball Stadium. Isis Lopes and Funda Nakkasoglu led the Sabres with 26 points apiece, with Nakkasoglu shooting a blistering 5-from-7 from three-point range. Haylee Andrews added 18 points and controlled the game with nine assists.
The Sabres dominated across all facets, shooting 52% from the field and a solid 39% from beyond the arc. Klara Wischer recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Lucy Cochrane contributed 17 points with outstanding efficiency, shooting 62% from the field. Ballarat struggled offensively, connecting on just 19% of their three-point attempts despite Abigail Wehrung's team-high 17 points.

Frankston vs Casey
Frankston (9-5) secured a hard-fought 70-64 win against Casey (6-8) at Dreamstreet Lending Arena. Lauren Scherf delivered a stellar performance with 36 points and 19 rebounds on 52% shooting from the field. Emily Monaghan added 15 points while Louise Brown contributed eight points and nine rebounds.
Casey's Esra McGoldrick led her team with 17 points on efficient 54% shooting, while Lauryn Hippolite recorded 13 points and six rebounds. Despite outshooting Frankston from the field (38% to 35%), Casey struggled with rebounding, grabbing just 37 boards compared to Frankston's 50. The victory places Frankston in strong position heading into their Sunday matchup against Bendigo.
Launceston vs Eltham
Launceston (10-4) claimed a 90-77 road win against Eltham (7-7) at Mazda BT-50 Thunder Stadium in a game that featured 32 lead changes. Keely Froling led the charge with 26 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Bailey Flavell contributed 18 points and Taya Webb added 13 points on exceptional 63% shooting.
Eltham's Lil Dart was outstanding in defeat, scoring 28 points on exceptional 75% shooting including 10-from-12 on two-point attempts. Kennedy Dickie added 17 points and eight rebounds, while Rebecca Pizzey contributed 14 points on 67% shooting from the field. Launceston's 42% three-point shooting (10-from-24) proved decisive in a game that remained close throughout all four quarters.
Kilsyth vs Diamond Valley
Diamond Valley (11-3) secured a comfortable 94-78 victory against Kilsyth (5-9) at Diamond Valley Sports & Fitness Centre. Tayha Watkins was phenomenal, scoring 27 points while shooting an outstanding 85% from the field including 5-from-6 from three-point range. Lara McSpadden recorded a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Stephanie Reid filled the stat sheet with 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists for Diamond Valley, who shot an impressive 49% from the field. Shannon Dufficy led Kilsyth with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Abby O'Connor and Nikita Young each contributed 14 points. Diamond Valley's 10 three-pointers and 24 assists were key factors in the victory.
Knox vs Dandenong
Dandenong (12-2) earned an 82-70 win against Knox (6-8) at Dandenong Basketball Stadium. Nyadiew Puoch and Dallas Loughridge were unstoppable, each scoring 25 points with Loughridge connecting on 5-from-7 from beyond the arc. Georgia Booth added 11 points along with four assists.
Knox was led by Alicia Froling and Paige Bradley, who each scored 20 points. Froling also grabbed 11 rebounds while battling foul trouble. Dandenong's 50% three-point shooting (11-from-22) proved decisive against Knox's 24% (7-from-29). The victory keeps Dandenong atop the NBL1 South standings as they prepare for a Sunday matchup against Ringwood.
Bendigo vs Melbourne
Melbourne (9-5) defeated Bendigo (7-7) 83-72 at Red Energy Arena Bendigo. Sara Blicavs led Melbourne with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Isobel Borlase added 14 points and Ella Tofaeono contributed 13 points on perfect 6-from-7 shooting from the field.
Taisheka Porchia paced Bendigo with 18 points, while Cassidy McLean added 17 points and six rebounds. Mikayla Pivec contributed 14 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the loss. Melbourne dominated the paint, outrebounding Bendigo 47-34 and scoring 42 points in the paint to Bendigo's 28.
Ringwood vs Nunawading
Ringwood (10-4) dominated Nunawading (3-11) 89-58 at Nunawading Basketball Centre. Camille Hobby led the Hawks with 21 points on outstanding 67% shooting from the field. Annabel Deerbon added 19 points including 5-from-7 from three-point range, while Sarah Elsworthy recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Nunawading's Rachel Brewster led her team with 18 points and Faith Dut contributed 13 points and seven rebounds. Ringwood's ball movement was exceptional, recording 24 assists compared to Nunawading's 13. The Spectres struggled from the field, shooting just 30% and connecting on only 1-from-23 from three-point range.
Waverley vs Keilor
Keilor (10-4) earned a 69-59 victory against Waverley (5-9) at Keilor Stadium. Maddison Rocci delivered a sensational triple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Isabelle Bourne added 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Isobelle Wightman contributed nine points.
Waverley was led by Renae Mokrzycki and Katelyn Shumate with 11 points each. Shumate also grabbed 12 rebounds. Rebecca Cole added nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists. The Thunder struggled mightily from three-point range, connecting on just 1-from-23 attempts, while Keilor made 11-from-36 from deep to secure the victory.
