Perth Wildcats star and Bryce Cotton's former teammate Kristian Doolittle has revealed his shock at the five-time MVP's decision to join the Adelaide 36ers during the NBL offseason.
Doolittle, who played with Cotton at the Wildcats for two seasons, recalled how he found out about arguably the biggest free agency move in the league's history when he joined Jason Cadee on the latest edition of Cut to the Jase ahead of Perth's clash with the 36ers to end the regular season.
"I couldn't believe it," he told basketball.com.au.
"When I saw that, because we were both in Puerto Rico, so I saw him whenever he had signed, I kind of gave him a side eye.
"But it was all fun and games, especially because I had Montrezl (Harrell) at the time was still signed with Adelaide, so I had to hear Montrezl talking every day, talking about how he got BC on his team now."
Doolittle, who has been in red-hot form for the Wildcats after taking over the lead role from Cotton, responded to comments from Perth coach John Rillie saying the versatile forward doesn't get mentioned enough during the NBL awards conversations.
"I mean I'm one of the 11 finalists for the MVP," Doolittle laughed.
"Personally I don't care for individual accolades, I'll take any award that's given to me, but I'm here for a championship, that's what I base my success off, if I was able to win a championship or not.
"Understanding that my individual performances will heavily indicate whether I win or not.
"All I care about is trying to play my best when it matters most to be able to get over the hump."
Doolittle and the Wildcats host Adelaide, who will be without Cotton, at RAC Arena tonight with fourth spot on the line.
