Morrell, Clark reshape NBL1 West title race

Teige Morrell and Jayda Clark delivered dominant performances as Rockingham and Warwick produced statement wins that reshaped the NBL1 West women’s championship race in Round 8.
Morrell controlled the paint in Rockingham’s road win against Willetton, while Clark exploded from the perimeter as Warwick dismantled ladder leaders Cockburn in one of the league’s biggest results of the season.
Across the weekend, elite individual shot creation, rebounding and perimeter efficiency separated contenders as the race behind the top four tightened entering the middle stretch of the season.

Teige Morrell dominated inside as Rockingham Flames strengthened their position near the top of the NBL1 West ladder with a road win against Willetton Tigers.
Morrell finished with 25 points and 10 rebounds on 11-from-21 shooting, repeatedly creating deep paint catches and second-chance opportunities as Rockingham controlled the game physically across the second half.
Sara Puckett added 21 points on 64.3% shooting, while Amy Atwell contributed 20 points, three assists and three steals as the Flames placed four players in double figures.
Rockingham’s offensive spacing and rebounding pressure consistently forced Willetton into difficult half-court possessions, particularly after halftime when the Tigers managed just 29 second-half points.
Stefanie Berberabe added nine points, five assists and four steals while helping drive Rockingham’s transition offence and perimeter pressure.
The Flames controlled the rebounding battle 50-44, generated 20 assists and forced 17 Willetton turnovers while steadily building separation after halftime.
Ruby Porter led Willetton with 19 points and six assists, while Emma Calvert added 17 points and eight rebounds.
Nija Collier was limited to eight points on 4-from-14 shooting as Rockingham’s interior defence repeatedly disrupted Willetton’s offensive rhythm and paint touches.
Willetton shot just 33.8% from the field and 25% from three as its losing streak extended against another finals-level opponent.

Warwick Senators 97 def. Cockburn Cougars 76
Jayda Clark erupted for 33 points as Warwick Senators delivered one of the biggest wins of the NBL1 West season against ladder leaders Cockburn Cougars.
Clark shot 11-from-14 from the field and 4-from-6 from three while repeatedly punishing Cockburn’s defensive rotations in transition and secondary actions.
Chloe Forster added 23 points and five assists, while Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard orchestrated Warwick’s offence with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
Warwick’s perimeter movement and drive-and-kick offence consistently created clean shooting opportunities as the Senators buried 15 threes and shot 44.1% from deep.
The Senators broke the game open with a dominant 34-point second quarter before continuing to stretch Cockburn defensively throughout the second half.
Kiara Waite added 13 points and three steals while helping Warwick generate defensive pressure on the perimeter.
Warwick finished with 26 assists on 33 made field goals and shot 51.6% overall in one of its cleanest offensive performances of the season.
Jessie Edwards fought to keep Cockburn within reach with 28 points and nine rebounds, while Jewel Williams added 12 points and four assists.
But Cockburn’s offence stalled badly from the perimeter, finishing just 5-from-31 from three while struggling to contain Warwick’s ball movement and spacing.
