Gaze backs Cotton to chase NBL MVP history

The men's GOAT of Australian basketball has no issue with his record seven NBL MVPs eventually being relegated to second on the all-time list of the award winners.

“If it’s not Bryce, it’s someone else. We look at history, it’s eventually going to happen," Gaze told Jason Cadee on Cut of the Jase.

“I would say from, I don’t know Bryce real well, I know him here, you know, brief chats, that’s about it, but he seems like a high-quality guy, a guy that’s done tremendous things for the league here.”

Gaze also said that, if the Boomers were building toward the next Olympics today, he would lean toward Cotton over Matisse Thybulle as the naturalised player because of Australia’s likely need for perimeter scoring and shooting around Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels.

“It’s a shame that we haven’t seen him in an Australian jersey because of all the imports that have come out here that you think would have perhaps represented us the way we want to represent — he certainly would fall in that category,” Gaze said.

On Brisbane, Gaze said Weaver was a strong appointment because of his Australian background, his understanding of culture and team-building, and his recent NBL experience. He added that if Brisbane was going to hire Weaver, it needed to fully hand him the keys – roster, assistants, staff and program direction.
