Australian-Sudanese centre Duop Reath's $2.2M, fully guaranteed 2025-26 contract with the Portland Trail Blazers has the potential to be exceptional value for money after the Oregon franchise moved on from former No1 Draft pick Deandre Ayton.
Reath, 29, is heading into his third season with the Blazers, averaging 7.1 points, 3.0 rebounds in ~14.8 minutes per game since his signing in 2023 and with former starter Ayton, minutes are up for grabs.
"I'm really happy with everything at Portland, feel like it's been a great two years, the team is doing really well, I feel like the future is bright for the team, we have a really good young core, and I feel like it's a great future ahead," told the ABC.
Key Details
- Age: 29
- Date of Birth: June 26, 1996
- Height/ Weight: 6'9" (2.06 m), 245lb (111 kg)

Reath, who plays alongside fellow Australian Boomers 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medallist Matisse Thybulle, is in the mix for more minutes as a back-up centre after Ayton signed with the Los Angeles Lakers after the Blazers bought him out.
Rim protector Donovan Clingan appears to be the leading candidate to start but Reath is likely to compete with Robert Williams III for more minutes off the bench.

Portland Trail Blazers centres
- Clingan — starter profile today. Drop coverage anchor who soaks up paint usage, protects the rim without fouling, and frees guards with solid screens. Offense is mostly rolls, seals, put-backs; jumper still developing (28.6% 3P as a rookie). Expect heavy DREB, contest volume, and second-chance points.
- Williams — high-ceiling backup if healthy. Short-area explosion, lob gravity, elite help-side shot-blocking, plus switch in a pinch. The rub is availability: right-knee ligament reconstruction (Nov 2023) and a hamstring strain (Oct 2024) have limited him to 26 total Blazers games across two seasons; he’s on an expiring-adjacent timeline (UFA 2026).
- Reath — floor-spacer at the 5. Comfortable above the break and in trail 3s (career 34.8% 3P; 32.1% in 2024-25), keeps lanes open for drivers. Best in second units, five-out looks, and short-roll decision making; not a pure rim deterrent but toggles schemes when you want offense first.
- Yang — developmental hub big. 7’1 with touch, vision and post craft; can play elbow-hub actions (DHOs, hi-low) and punish switches. Questions: foot speed in space and range. He signed his rookie deal in July, so expect a tempered ramp (spot minutes + G League reps) while the staff works on mobility and pick-and-roll coverages.

The Portland Trail Blazers guaranteed Duop Reath's contract for the 2025-26 NBA season, a significant move to retain the Australian Boomers big man.
Community Engagement
In May 2025, Reath returned to Perth, Australia, to conduct basketball clinics for aspiring young players.
NBA and International Career:
Reath is a prominent figure in both the NBA, playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, and for the Australian National Basketball Team.
Background
Born in South Sudan, Reath's family moved to Australia when he was a child, where he developed his basketball skills. After attending college in the U.S. and playing for LSU, he played professionally in Lebanon and the NBL in Australia before signing with the Trail Blazers. Reath was a member of the Australian Olympic Team, the Boomers, earning a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
